    Interesting ….

[Daniel Stone] “Anyone else find their BM play out card fickle and annoying? Any tips before I rip them out and toss them? Firmware is up to date.”

I am the opposite. I had Aja on both PC and Mac and it was dodgy as!
Then I tried a Decklink and it worked straight off.

Since then I have about 20 different Blackmagic capture devices from Decklink extremes through to Multibridge Eclipses (my favourite is the Multibridge Extremes as it has built in down converter; I have 8 of those).

I sold most of my Aja’s but still have one sitting in a box along side a late ’80’s PLUM card.

Obviously they have never experienced Bob when he really IS being HARSH!

[Tim Maddoux] ” I am getting a thin line of noise across the top of the graphic”

This is usually caused by the image size not being correct. What format is the ATEM set to?

Thanks Herb – a quick question needs a quick answer!

Incidently, apart from running and owning a post house here in Sydney I have also branched out into multicam field work using ATEM production switchers.

Part of the requirement is to provide field recording, editing and turnarounds back into the main ‘live’ program.

For this I use a MBPr with FCPX and a Blackmagic Ultrastudio Thunderbolt I/O and a thunderbolt hard drive. When the ‘fast turnaround’ edit is complete it is played out ‘live’ direct from the FCPX timeline. If we have the time we export it to a SSD and play it out on a Hyperdeck studio to free up the editing system to keep editing.

So while I get accused of being ‘old fashion’ its all very hi-tech stuff that I designed myself! (I am not a youngser having worked in TV since the early ’70’s.)

I still have a field MBP running FCP 7 and a MXO2 but it gets mainly used now as a media player into the live programs.

Well it seems there may be an opportunity for someone with the skills to offer a repair service.

I am sure the components can be obtained, even through Black Magic.

If I wasn’t so busy, I would consider it, being a board level engineer, but I don’t want to fork out all the money to buy the special SMD handling tools etc.

But to be fair BMD were super helpful and sympathetic to my dilemma.

And lets admit it, we all live in a disposable world now.

I had a 12×24 Workgroup Videohub that experienced a similar fate. I went to use it one day and it would not respond.

I actually sent it back to BMD HQ and they said “dead and unrepairable”.
The only thing wrong with it was the USB had fritzed for no apparent reason.

Luckily it had reset itself to factory default so now I use it as a 12×2 HD distribution amp.

I replaced it with a 72×144 Videohub, at great expense, and live in fear of the same thing happening!

I also had a Multibridge Extreme that would work as a converter but would not work with the PCI card. Same thing; unrepairable. Now I use it as a…. yep, you guessed it; as a HDSDI to HDMI converter and a down converter.

full 16 channels of audio are part of the routed signal.

Genlock has no part in A/V sync issues – its only there to provide a ‘vertical interval’ switch reference if sources are genlocked.
