Recently when I spoke to Apple they told me they were dropping support for PAL in the next release – infact ANYTHING 25 frame based!

  • Just a guess Steve but its not a ‘reference’ issue somewhere in your signal path? Maybe there was some software changes made in the 7.x.x drivers that invoked a feature which brought to life a little wiring error you may have had in your setup… as I said, just a guess….

[Rafael Amador] “I want to have everything duplicated by the end of each day.”

…so when you shoot in the field for 2 weeks you are staying in a tent with no power?

When I shoot in the field each night when I return to the hotel I am staying at I do the dumpoff to my MBP. Even if I was staying in a tent I could power off batteries for a few hours before I have to plug into the car battery.

The last shoot I did I even took the MBP into the downstairs bar and enjoyed a few ales with my producer while the MBP did its thing.

What type of lighting gear do you take on the road?

Well I go way back to lugging a RCA TK76 camera connected to a Sony BVH500 portable 1″ recorder AND a car battery to supply prolonged power. They make cars now that weigh less than that rig!

So I can attest the benefits of my Sony Ex1 – nowdays the tripod with head weigh more than the camera… so I really benefit when its just me as the camera support.

If you believe in the SDHC technology like I do, you really can’t beat buying a whole bunch of 16g or 32g with 2 X MxM or MxR and save doing your dumpoffs until you are in a controlled environment.

But there are dedicated devices out there that are built for just that purpose; field dumpoffs – and about the same cost as a mini notebook.

Hey Wayne – I can not help you with your problem but I have FCP 6.0.5 and a HVR 15 deck and the Mac outputs DV just fine. In fact I just output a lot of NTSC DV stuff (I am mainly PAL).

The only other thing I have in my setup in between the Mac and the deck is a Firewire HUB (for FW patching)

May 16, 2009 at 3:26 am in reply to: FCP target track missing from timeline?

I get this often – I think its a FCP memory bug.

I usually close all sequences and then open again and it returns to normal.

very annoying when I need to export an EDL with just the audio and want to select an empty video track. Did I mention the fact that it was annoying?

I also find that sometimes the block select will not allow me to move a block as the icon will not appear as it should. This happens after prolonged use and obviously has to do with a memory leak. That unfortunately requires a restart!

Apple must be using Microsoft’s memory management modules in their compiler!

I use Sony Grade 1 standard definition 20″ (BVM) in all my HD suites connected via component from the down converters. I do all my grading on them and the tubes are great and probe calibrated all the time.
