    Ok, gang…

My head is hurting at the moment. I cannot get my Sony DV deck to be seen in FCP 6.0.5. I can see the deck as HDV. For DV mode, you have to turn off the iLink conversion. I have set the deck to iLink Set – Off. Normally, under normal circumstances, the deck will go in DV record mode. But on my Mac Pro, it will not.

    Here’s the specs:

Mac Pro (Late 2007) Quad Pro 3.0
8 gig of matching paired RAM
FCS 2.0 with all of the latest updates.
    MacOS 10.5.6
AJA Kona 3 driver version 6.03
AJA Io driver version 2.01 – disconnected unless needed for capture from older tape decks
    ATI Radeon XT1900 (512 RAM)
ATTO Celerity FC-42ES fiber channel card
    Quicktime 7.6
Adobe Creative Suite Premium CS3 (with all updates applied)

I have checked Apple’s tech site and forums, nothing other than removing the old Quicktime receipts and reinstalling Quicktime. I tried this… Still nothing. I tried to use another deck, a Sony HVR-M10U. Nothing!

Before you say, its the firewire connection in the computer, HDV does work just fine. Its DV that doesn’t work. I wish I had an HVR-1500 deck so that I could bypass this issue, but I don’t have one.

    HELP!!!

I just tried to use the deck in iMovie… and it works just fine. The problem is with FCP 6.0.5.

[Wayne Carey] “I have set the deck to iLink Set – Off.”

I wouldn’t think you would want to turn it off, but rather turn it to dv mode.

Just a guess as I haven’t used that deck.

Wayne- I’m confused. Is your tape HDV and you are trying to downcovert or do you have a DV tape that you are trying to bring into FCP as DV? If it is a DV tape close out of FCP, eject the tape, turn off the deck , then turn the deck back on and change the mode of the deck to match the tape and insert the tape. Now launch FCP and choose the proper Easy Setup. The main thing here is for some reason you have to be closed out of FCP when you do all of your deck settings.

I think the same Jeremy. But Waine says that in iMovie is OK.
I would do as Jerry suggest. FC may not accept alive the change in the stream or so.

I’m sorry… In my frustration, I forgot to clarify myself. I’m having to output a DV sequence. I have iLink set to DV SP, the deck is set to DV SP and I have restarted FCP many times, rebooted the computer and trashed the prefs. Still nothing…

Ok… This is getting really frustrating.

I just tried to output using Premier Pro CS3. It works… but the video looks really fuzzy after render. I even output about three minutes of my timeline as a test.

But still a no go in FCP.

I’m sorry…. I said that backwards. I meant that I have it set to DV SP.

It will output to DV in Premier Pro CS3 but the render of the program looks really fuzzy.

Yes, I have the Easy Setup set to DV-NTSC… Firewire going straight into my Mac, not through a hub.

Wayne- OK, so your not digitizing…. you are going out to tape. Two quick things to check:

    1. You may have a firewire conflict. Disconnect all other firewire devices that might be on the same bus.
I see from your profile that you have a AJA i/o LA. That could be the problem. You may need to disconnect it while you go out to tape via firewire. We had to install a cheap firewire PCI card to give us a discreet firewire bus for our deck.

    2. You may have a mismatch between your timeline and your output settings. Go to Audio/Video Settings>check the ‘different output for Edit to Tape/Print to Video’. Then choose the proper settings for both your audio and video.

All good points to check… Those were my first things to look at, Jerry.

Here’s where it gets really weird… I can capture and export using Premier Pro CS3 to my DV deck. But FCP… It shows the deck as missing. Only in FCP is this happening. iMovie can see the deck just fine.

So… for the meantime, I’m having to export my sequences from FCP using Quicktime Conversion – setting it to DV stream and then importing it into Premier Pro and writing it to tape from there.

    Makes you go, hummm….

Hey Wayne – I can not help you with your problem but I have FCP 6.0.5 and a HVR 15 deck and the Mac outputs DV just fine. In fact I just output a lot of NTSC DV stuff (I am mainly PAL).

The only other thing I have in my setup in between the Mac and the deck is a Firewire HUB (for FW patching)

What would I do without the ‘UNDO’ button!!!!
