  • FCP target track missing from timeline?

Posted by Roberto Serrini on May 15, 2009 at 3:22 pm

I’ve searched the threads for this one, and strangely have not found anything bout this as it is now happening on two different machines in two different projects.

when I load a clip into the source window that has one track of video and two tracks of audio i dont have all or any target controls in my sequence. Either I’m missing the (V1) target or one of the two audio (A1 or A2) target buttons.

What is stranger is that I have them available in other sequences using the same clip loaded in the source monitor.

Anyone else see this or have an answer? Thanks guys!

When things get weird in FCP trash prefs, repair permissions and run Disk Warrior.

I get this often – I think its a FCP memory bug.

I usually close all sequences and then open again and it returns to normal.

very annoying when I need to export an EDL with just the audio and want to select an empty video track. Did I mention the fact that it was annoying?

I also find that sometimes the block select will not allow me to move a block as the icon will not appear as it should. This happens after prolonged use and obviously has to do with a memory leak. That unfortunately requires a restart!

Apple must be using Microsoft’s memory management modules in their compiler!

What would I do without the ‘UNDO’ button!!!!

Try Control clicking in the blank gray area where the target track should be. You’ll get a drop down menu. Select “Reset Panel”.
Hopefully that should do it for you.

In the Help Manual in Volume I, Chapter 9, Page 115:

“The number of available Source controls corresponds to the number of clip items of the source clip currently open in the Viewer. For example, a typical DV clip has one video track and two audio tracks. In this case, one video and two audio Source controls appear in the Timeline. If, instead, you open a clip in the Viewer that has one video item
and four audio items, then one video and four audio Source controls appear in the Timeline.”

Right clicking in the source control area of the timeline and choosing “Reset Panel” will not do anything. Instead, try match framing anywhere on the timeline (hit the F key) and that will reset your source tracks.

I had this same problem and ‘reset panel’ was the solution.

I just had this issue with the source not having a video track to cut over and reset panel worked to get it back.

    Thanks for the tip!
