    thanks Skye.
Any tips or hints when using a green floor to prevent colour spilling up on to the actor? I have only used backdrops before, where we had good spatial separation between the actor and the screen.
Does anyone know of any good online tutorials for this sort of setup – quick lighting setups etc?

same combination here – if you haven’t got the 6.5.1 update for AE, I would try that. I think I found the update more stable and reliable

You could try switching the rendering plugin in the advanced composition settings. Advanced 3D seems fine, but hardware OpenGL kills the motion blur (on my system anyway – Mac G5 dual 1.8)

using a cyan or sepia solid in “add” mode is effective, but it doesn’t turn your black areas completely white at 100% opacity. If you duplicate the solid layer, then you can get a solid white burn out, which still has the tinting effect as it gets more opaque. You can then play with two different colour solids with different speed opacity curves to get a more complex effect.

OK, I am a C4D user and I am biased (and haven’t used most the others). The general vibe seems to be that C4D is the best option at this level. Relatively easy to learn and get into, great cross platform, fast rendering – important for motion graphics. Its perceived weaknesses, those areas where Maya scores such as advanced character animation, programibility, and specialised add ons for certain high end effects, are not really applicable to motion graphics.
Also possible to export renders to AE with seperate channels as an AE comp. If you are on the Mac your choices are more limited anyway (no XSI or studioMax)
