has anyone tried using commercial emulsion paint for doing greenscreen work on the cheap? We are shooting at the weekend, and I don’t think that we will have time to get hold of any of the good stuff. We have a proper greenscreen backcloth, but are going to paint some floor and other things. I am using Keylight to do the keying.

Here in the USA, many hardware or paint stores have a device to scan a customer provided sample to generate the proper instructions for mixing the paint. Take a sample of the fabric with you and have them match it with a good mat paint. It will not be perfect but should be good enough. You may be forced to key the frabric and painted areas seperately, but in my experience it is never possible to pull a good key with just on pass.

    thanks Skye.
Any tips or hints when using a green floor to prevent colour spilling up on to the actor? I have only used backdrops before, where we had good spatial separation between the actor and the screen.
Does anyone know of any good online tutorials for this sort of setup – quick lighting setups etc?

I just built a small studio using REPTAR GREEN paint from Leows. Just get them to color match REPTAR GREEN, don’t buy the nickelodeon brand, its too expensive. Make sure it is totally flat too, I’m having some problems lighting b/c mine isn’t totally flat.

    and don’t forget
8-10 feet away from the green, because it will spill
