I will say maybe with ableton Live, running a similar timecode …. midi interface going out of the computer to trigger some lights. Find a ligth guy who can direct you towards a ligthing console that could be automate with a computer, i m sure it exist, there may be also some application virtualizing that. Then Live or Max/msp to send the midi signal to this special interface. I ve never done that , i m just brainstorming as i write. May be a more direct solution … ?

i bet if some guys took the time to develop specific tools that mean it s something lacking in FCP. If not every body will be doing it that way. Maybe some plugins exist …?
-
i didn t try , but maybe toonnloop could be a good free solution ?

i don t know about doing it natively in FCP, but i will simply take pictures with a still caméra. Name them in a logical order ( 001, 002, 003 …. you camera probably do it already) and then in the user pref adjust my still import duration to 1 frame. So then just drag all pic into your time line and they will be all playing one after the other, displaying just 1 frame for each one. Then you can play with your fps if you desire.
There is even a better way in motion i guess, where motion compile all those files into one big clip.
there is also a couple of software just for that ex: istopmotion

Its exactly what i do, etheir for the uncompressed 8 bit or the prores 4.2.2.
here is the video of mine https://www.vimeo.com/4612023 , so you can see first the original file, then the info on my export, way to big ! and then i retry an export, you can see it take for ever !
still don t know where is the problem. I m goanna try using my laptop , just to check ?!
-
so i ve done the exact same export on my mac bookpro and it took 3 min and is 3.77 gig, much more what should be expected. I m goanna continu to investigate to know what s wrong with the macpro !
thanks for your help !

Exactly what i did Mr, that gave me the best result , but still 14 gig for 2:45 min of Ntsc , that s to much no ?
thanks Mr Seeman

Thanks Mr Sanchez, actually the place can downconvert it for me , but they charge a ridiculous amount for that and i m pretty sure i can do it myself. I asked them for what kind of file the want and they said either a prores4.2.2 or 8bit uncompressed, ntsc frame rate and frame size , with a letterbox of course to keep my nice 16:9 look. I tried with compressor and with quicktime also that gave me the same result, and i also post in the compression forum : so here more details ( i still have no answer, i went to sleep !) :
so i have a Mac pro 2 X 3 GHZ dual-core intel Xeon with 4 g of Ram, running OS 10.5.6
I m using the fcp studio 2 : compressor 3.0.5
FCP : 6.0.5
quicktime pro : 7.6.0
the source media is dvcpro HD 720p60 (shoot at 30PN with a hvx200a)
out put as a self contain movie directly from FCP as dvcpro HD 720p60
Then i try to compress it to be or prores 4.2.2 or uncompress 8 bit with a ntsc format 4:3 720×480 , letterboxed to keep my nice 16:9 look at 29,97 frame rate.
i ve tried a couple other export and i m know with a 14,64 Gig file of 2:45 min. Exept the frame size, the codec i can see that the bit rate as a huge difference : 59 109 for the original and 762 261 for the export one. The original one is 1.14 gig.
Any idea ? thanks again to help me. I can pay to have it done, but i would really want to understand, cause i m pretty sure i have everything with me to do it properly.
Thanks, hopefully i will be smater tonight cause of you guys !
