Obama YouTube Compression workflow
I recently saw an embedded YouTube video of President Obama’s Weekly address.
It seems pretty crisp and does not have the usual MPEG4 compression Pixel problem. Does anyone know what their workflow is? Is there anyway to tell what they are uploading, H264, MPEG4?

I don’t know their workflow but it’s not too difficult to match that quality at all.
Start with a good high end broadcast camera (you’re simply NOT going to get DV to look that that!) and shoot HiDef with a good lens. Use good lighting techniques. Color correct in post production as needed.
Encode H.264 at 1280×720 at about 5000kbps 2 or multipass VBR and use your source frame rate. Upload.

I’d thought I’d add their encode seems to have either interlacing or scaling artifacts. Watch his hand move. In addition the audio has too much room reverb. They could have used a lav or moved the boom closer with a mic that had better side rejection.

and there is so luttle movement that it s easy to read, for us and for the “encoder”.
