Not sure. Make sure they’re both in TC PRESET and FREE RUN and the same DF mode (either both DF or both NDF). Set the preset and trigger it to start with the remote, and both cameras should have identical timecode.

Panasonic has already recruited Focus to create a FireStore. Focus is a member of the “P2 Partners” program. Panasonic is talking with Serious Magic about making a DVCPRO-HD-capable version of DV Rack. Those statements are already public. And Panasonic has said that they are open to licensing the P2 technology to anyone who wants to use it.
And, obviously it’s completely confirmed that there are at least three other ways to bypass P2: desktop or laptop running FCP-HD, desktop or laptop running Avid Express Pro HD, and direct-to-tape recording using the AJ-HD1200A deck.
I’m already aware of at least two different programs underway to engineer alternatives to P2, unrelated to all those that have been previously mentioned.
What’s Panasonic’s interest? Panasonic wants to sell CAMERAS. P2 sales would be nice, but the HVX is engineered to sell, regardless of whether they sell P2 cards or not. It’s not like the razor ‘n’ blades argument. Most users will never need more than 2 (or maybe 3) P2 cards in their entire lives. The HVX isn’t about selling P2 cards.
In fact, if you want to go further, it’s been estimated that Panasonic manufactures 70% of the consumer DV tape market. If all they were concerned about was protecting their media division, wouldn’t they have been the first to jump on the HDV bandwagon? That’s a lot of tape they could keep making…
There are already at least three confirmed, functional alternatives to P2 on the market (FCP-HD, Avid HD, and HD1200A). There will be more.

There’s a menu setting for which remote control they’ll respond to — the choices are VCR1 or VCR2. Set those the same, and then set the switch on the remote to be the same as the menu setting. Then get both cameras close together (the remote IR sensor is on the back of the handle at the top, or on the front of the microphone). Point the remote at them and it should trigger each one equally.

If you set both cameras to FREE RUN timecode, and PRESET (not REGEN), they will stay in sync throughout the day so long as you don’t turn either camera off. Turning one off (to change a battery, etc) seems to cause the timecode to lose a few frames of sync. They may drift a little during a long day, I haven’t verified that, but they will definitely be very close.
Set ’em both to the same setting (DF or NDF, FREE RUN, and PRESET). Then set both to the exact same timecode preset, but don’t confirm the preset using the menus; instead, use a remote control and put both cameras side-by-side. That way they’ll both respond to the remote control’s signal at the same time. Start ’em off the same and they should stay the same, regardless of when you start or stop recording.

It is worded confusingly, but no, unfortunately, that has nothing to do with the Sony tape format. What that’s saying is that when you’re playing a JVC tape, it can output it as a 720p signal, or it can convert it to be 1080i, or PAL, etc, on the analog component connections. But it has nothing to do with playing a 1080i tape.
The brochure clearly states that the JVC deck cannot play Sony-format HDV tapes at all. Says it at the bottom of the table on page 16: “Tapes recorded in HDV1080i format cannot be played back by GY-DH100 and BR-HD50”.

I don’t know of any publicly-released DVCPRO-HD .avi codec. Canopus and Pinnacle both have a DVCPRO-HD codec, but I don’t know if it works in .avi or not, or if it’s accessible to outside programs. Avid’s codec is freely distributable but works only within Quicktime-aware applications.

Is who getting 720/50p? The European version? Yes the European/Australian version will have 720/50p, and 720/25p, and many other frame rates as well. And it will have 1080/50i and 1080/25p too.
