5.0 can import standard-def, but you need 5.0.4 to import high-def. So were you doing standard-def before and just now switched to high-def?
Also, FCP had bugs that prevented it from successfully importing all clips. Especially susceptible were clips that were repaired in-camera; if you’re using 5.1.1 or earlier, it fails to successfully import those clips (even though every other program or app can). Those bugs seem to be resolved in 5.1.4. Best thing for you to do is upgrade.

The FireStore cuts clips into two-gigabyte files; the cards themselves divide files at 4 gigabytes. If you’re using an MXF-aware application like EDIUS, the files are automatically stitched back together for you behind-the-scenes so you wouldn’t even know this had happened.

Worst I’ve had ’em is in 130-degree heat, and at about 60 below zero. No problems at all. I guess a car dashboard in Vegas could get up to maybe 150 or 170 degrees, so I can’t comment on that, but in any rational shooting circumstance anywhere on this globe, they’re going to hold up flawlessly.

The FireStore should work with the HPX500. But considering that most HPX500 packages include four 16GB cards, you may find that P2 recording isn’t limited on the HPX500. I mean, just right out of the box it’s got 2/3 the capacity of an entire FireStore FS-100. With four 16GB cards, that’s over an hour of 1080, or almost three hours of 720/24pN…

That Addonics one will most definitely not work.
The duel-systems adapter is the only inexpensive card adapter that works.

They do. That’s the point. It’s freely available, installed on every PC where anyone’s installed P2 Viewer. CineForm uses it for their file conversion program. All Apple would have to do is create a Quicktime function call to the freely-installed, no-royalties-paid-to-anyone P2 Viewer codec and they’d have that functionality. It’s already there.

FCP converts the files to Quicktime, but refuses to put DVCPRO-HD support in the PC version of Quicktime. So it’s historically been a one-way street; if you convert your files to Quicktime, you were pretty much locking them to the Mac hardware.
Users of EDIUS or Avid XPress Pro could use Mac Quicktimes but only within those apps; you can’t use a Mac DVCPRO-HD quicktime in PC AfterEffects, for example.
Marcus van Bavel of DVFILM has a new Quicktime reader for PCs that adds the kind of compatibility that Apple won’t; it lets PC users freely use Mac DVCPRO-HD Quicktime movies. That’s probably the tool you need to get; I think it’s just $95.
