My experience is that soundcards are incredibly important, just as the microphone used. There is a interesting competition going on in the audio bizz, and I just saw that Samson has come up with a very interesting micrphone which can make the difference between a amateur and pro recording:

It’s a USB microphone, so you won’t be needing a expensive AD converter, for it’s build in the mic. You also have a large membrane mic. All this for $79! No, I don’t work for Samson, but I have a couple of Samson Rev65A monitoring speakers – a very good quality for the money. I also have used the C01. Again, good quality for the price.

Yoyodyne, one question though: did you format your C drive or simply installed over the exisiting one? I too dread having to format the C drive and re-intall everything.

I don’t believe this! I just spent 4 extra (!) days working and cursing around this problem and keeping the client of my back, desperately wishing that 6.0 would no longer have this problem created by the 5.0d update. This means I should simply not upgrade to 6.0, but downgrade to 5.0b. What’s going on here Sony? I simply have to compress to MPEG2.

Mmmm, no rendering AT ALL to mpeg2? Strange. A real downgrade that 5.0d. Let’s see what surprises 6.0 will bring.

Yes it works. First rendered to DV AVI, then to mpg2. Pfff what a waste of precious time.
Why can’t you render to DV AVI?
