I copy the backups folder to a large external Raid along with the Libraries once a day then, once a week use Carbon Copy Cloner – which has served me well.

Thanks, How do I manually add a new angle? I have tried selecting it, dragging, etc. I am still stumped. Can you explain it as if I was a child?

After Mavericks, I too was having “buggy” display issues. I searched for an answer at Apple. Found a suggestion to do a PRAM reset. It worked for me. I’d try that 1st b4 going thru the whole clean reinstall/time machine thing – also since it isn’t doing “it” when using an alias, have you repaired disk & permissions. I had to do that twice so far. Otherwise I’m reeling like a Zebco.

I advise against changing anything as well. The way that Mavericks “saves” or “extends” battery life is by putting applications “to sleep” when not “on screen” – editing apps. have to be “exempted” thru Get Info… The only way to install it would be to download rosetta — but even then. Why? These latest OS builds are meant for 64 bit apps. only. I haven’t jumped straight onto a new Mac OS ever. I wait until after the inevitable updates that come during the following year. But that is me.

I appreciate the help. I’ll just follow Apple’s basic recommendation about using a sub-folder and proceed with the disks. Then I’ll test ’em. I’m in a great place as this machine is new & void of a “personality”. Just an empty 1 TB SSD drive that is so fast I’m getting whiplash watching progress bars.
I can do a clean re-install – if need be – w/o any worries.

For editing or for back-up? If for rendering, editing, etc. of multiple streams of compressed or uncompressed HD then I’d go with e-sata raid 3 or 5 with SSD drives. I like G-Tech, Cal-Digit and Sonnet. Buffalo has a drive that is both USB 3 and Thunderbolt. I have bought enclosures and built my own as well — which is always cheaper. Be glad you have e-sata. It is more universal and cheaper than Thunderbolt. If you use raided SSDs it will fly.

I only hesitated using the Disks that include the “antiquated installer” because I read on other forums where this issue popped up on machines that never had previous OS versions installed. I also read that upon using the “antiquated installer” folks got prompted to install rosetta. In any event, thanks, Ive got the disks and serial # & will just proceed.
Tom is always the go to guy on all things Final Cut — I taught it at a university and used his texts. He sent me an e-mail describing how he created a temporary user account on the new machine then used Migration assistant, copied all applications from Old HD to New IMac HD/temp user/Applications then copied just Final Cut Pro.app to Imac/HD/Applications/New Folder named Final Cut Studio —then he deleted the “new user account” along with all the apps not wanted– Whew! I just want to avoid clogging this lean & mean new machine with rosetta, ffmpegX libraries files, etc. Ya Follow?Lastly, should I install FCP 7 into a subfolder in the application directory? Named?: Final Cut Studio? Or is it recommended here that if I am to install FCP X then I should create a separate partition?
