FCPX iMac 27″ full screen mode gets stuck since Mavericks
I’m in the middle of trying to sort out an annoying problem whereby, since installing Mavericks, when I go into full screen mode in FCPX the screen gets stuck, normally one hits escape to go back to original layout, but the only way out is to quit FCPX and then relaunch.
It’s a strange problem, user specific, because when I access FCPX from a different user account on my computer everything works fine.
I’ve tried all the old tricks, trashing the preferences, repairing disk permissions, trashing and reinstalling FCPX and then finally contacting Apple support. The guy who is helping me also can’t come up with a solution so I thought I’d see if anyone here might have encountered this problem, and hopefully come up with a solution.

Thanks – Yes I do have 2 screens and I have tried disabling – and then disconnected the second screen and the problem still occurs.
But it all works fine if I open FCPX under a fresh user. Weird – obviously something I’ve got on my active system is conflicting.

Did you do a clean install of Mavericks? It seems to be solving most problems with it.

No I haven’t done a clean install.
Seems a very extreme step because presumably one has to remove / backup every thing off the drive first?

After Mavericks, I too was having “buggy” display issues. I searched for an answer at Apple. Found a suggestion to do a PRAM reset. It worked for me. I’d try that 1st b4 going thru the whole clean reinstall/time machine thing – also since it isn’t doing “it” when using an alias, have you repaired disk & permissions. I had to do that twice so far. Otherwise I’m reeling like a Zebco.

I’d forgotten about resetting the PRAM, it didn’t fix my issue but it was fun remembering how to do it!
It just seems overkill to reinstall, reformat an entire disk, just to resolve one small problem. But unfortunately the deep skilled knowledge base is slowly disappearing, similar to auto mechanics where one replaces an ECU to fix a faulty bulb.
I’ll wait to see what Apple technical support comes up with before doing anything drastic.
