December 14, 2007 at 6:13 pm in reply to: procedure to export 1080p from 4×3 fcp project w/kona lhe card?thanks gary. how do i do any of this? where do i find settings for
what you are suggesting? i’ve always assumed i could do it but
posted to find out how. new to the whole process and kona card so
this will be my first go at this type of export procedure.as to the odd size question, yes these are digital stills. i’m
working with various different things but mostly capturing 35mm
film and shooting timelapse. will eventually move to 4k but for
now the optics aren’t optimized for that size. i can get better
than 2k for my original captures but not yet 4k. that’s why i
settled on 3k as an interim solution; better quality than 2k and
reachable by my rigs.thanks,

December 11, 2007 at 11:30 pm in reply to: procedure to export 1080p from 4×3 fcp project w/kona lhe card?thanks jeremy. to make sure i have it right, the desired
procedure is not to select export settings, but rather to
place the material into a timeline with the settings of
the desired export format.my material is actually something like 3k, or 3072×2304.
i currently have it on a timeline with those settings.
what i should do now is create a 1080psf timeline and
nest the 3072×2304 sequence into it, scaling as needed.that will obviate the need for choosing export settings
as i can then export with “current settings” option. do
i have this all right?thanks again,

update:
mpeg streamclip is able to read the file in its native rgb 888 format
at 1024 x 682. it cannot be output in the animation codec at that
ratio, however. to get the animation codec to successfully output
i have to first letterbox the file so it’s 1024 x 768 (4 x 3).would much rather not have to do this as it adds a lot of time in
duplicating the file and it’s not in its native aspect ratio.
would also rather export using ‘none’ rather than animation but
that’s not listed as an option in mpeg streamclip.any ideas anyone?

perian is and has been installed. don’t think it should make
any difference for this file, though, as the file is not
divx or xvid, both of which play fine on the system. the
file in question is uncompressed and is at an odd frame size
of 1024 x 682. the colorspace seems to be 24 bit rgb 888.thanks,

flip4mac didn’t do it. mpeg streamclip is able to
see the video and export it. would be nice to be
able to view clips without having to convert. still
looking for codec info for the export process. i
was under the impression that uncompressed didn’t
require a codec, though.BabaG

September 19, 2007 at 7:05 pm in reply to: deinterlacing and fcp/osx/qt behaviour questionsthanks sean. i’ve noticed the sometimes on sometimes off
qtplayer behaviour as well. so deinterlace can’t be turned
off in fcp? bummer. will try ct. can multiple clips be run
simultaneously in ct? that’s one advantage with qtplayer,
can run multiple instances to see an interlaced and de-
interlaced side by side; not frame accurate but close.thanks again,

first thing i tried. didn’t work.
thanks,

the implication here being it’s not a fcp issue?

thanks walter,
“these new super fast 8 to 10 bay SATA arrays.”
any more info on this? links? i have a 12 bay sata box now.
as for the data rate calculator, just looked at it but i’m not
on a mac right now and it appears to be mac only. know of anything
like it that’s cross platform?thanks,

thanks for the replies. the card seems to go up to uncomp
1080p 10bit so i’d love to be able to do that. what kind
of throughput does that require from my drives and how
best to go about it?thanks,
