IMHO, Jerry’s reply points out the most critical question about “exporting”.
If you (Eryk) are concerned about exporting–specifically–to DVD…I would tell you that I have had the same concern. Therefore, you may want to check out my thread: “FCP EXPORT to QT with Color Correction Pre-uncompressed” for more info. From what I gathered from the responses to my thread, if you are exporting for DVD, you would be more likely to have a better quality QT file if you change your SEQUENCE setting to either 8-bit or 10-bit uncompressed, then RENDER, then Export to QT.
With that said, I also found posts that explained that is far better to use Compressor (I thought there were problems with this app in the past) without RENDERING first because Compressor will automatically render in 8-bit uncompressed format. Then, once Compressor is finished, one should drop that file into DVDPRO to convert to MPEG-2. The biggest No-no I read was NOT to make your setting NONE (as in “no compresion at all”)
So as far as a definitive answer…uh…I’m not sure!
