I tried importing to FCPX and it seems to have held onto the timecode. So the clips have timecode, it’s just FCP7 not importing that data for some reason.

Any ideas what I can toggle on/off to make it read that once again?

I ran across that thread in my search, but it doesn’t seem to address my issue. On the camera it shows timecode is running. It’s just when ingesting to FCP7, or reading the SD cards, that each clip shows up with a Media Start timecode of 00:00:00:00, instead of being continuous.

Just tried importing again an same results. Is there a setting in FCP that determines if new clips’ timecode reverts back to 00:00:00:00 or continues from the last clip’s timecode?

That’s what’s confusing me because it seems like in the past, when importing to FCP from my Sony FS700, this wouldn’t happen. Timecode would match the timecode that the camera laid onto the memory card. But for some reason now it stopped doing this. Maybe a camera setting?

I’ll check out the other post.

I imported the footage using Log and Transfer directly from the SD card. What’s odd is that other times this doesn’t happen to me, but for some reason today it did.

Shane, it didn’t come with any software that I recall. I wasn’t sure if there might be something hidden within the captured video that would be along the lines of a exif file on a DSLR. I’m going to check out a camera-specific message board and see if any other users of it have run into this.

Thanks for that. Very helpful.

One last question – in FCP when I have two clips and want them to lay flush against each other, one way I do that is select the second clip and hit the MINUS key and a numerical value. If it’s more than the space between clips, it leaves them flush against each other. I tried this with Premiere and it overlapped them. Is there a way to make one clip stop the other from moving further?

Thanks Peter. I’m really trying to like Premiere but getting over the hurdles of being an FCP user for years.

One more question you may be able to help with. Are there ways of speeding up the launch of the program on OSX? It seems to take a lot of time to load

Not really. That lines them up back to back on the timeline. What I’m looking for is an auto-spacing based on the actual recording time. If I shoot 30 seconds at the beginning of each hour, I’d like the clips to line up with the 59.5 minute spacing on the timeline when I drop them in.
