down load the iFinish transcoder from the media 100 software dowloads page.

I also found a nifty little app, Mac Drive by Mediafour which allows a mac drive to mount to the pc, you can read and write to it, you can also Map mac file types to PC file types. So you can tell it that Media 100 i Media is Quicktime, and when ever you mount the drive, it adds the .mov automatically.

    well worth the $50 IMHO

Just to start with the most obvious, did you export interlaced with the proper field order? Media 100 720 NTSC is, I believe, lower field dominant.

You can probably expect to see a little interlacing artifact with fine type on interlaced NTSC. Using Motion blur in AE will probably lessen this, and on slow moves should still keep the text readable

Interms of the apparent luma ship, make sure you’re not exporting RGB values over 235.

    My 2 cents,

If I recall from the info I saw on SW release, M100/Boris is recomending at least a 1.42 G4 PB, so your 667 PB might be a little slo for SW.

Down load the trial and see how it works, can’t hurt… Just make sure you’re using COPIES of your bins and Programs so that you can still open these in m100 i if you need to.

you’re not trying to play back lossless media are you? I’ve noticed in my expnsion chassis config that it’ll try to play lossless, and then go all wonky.

M100 tells me that the lossless chip is doing something else in the expansion chassis.

you need boris FX or Boris RED to work as comps in the A/B video tracks. RED will also replace Graffiti (and work in the graphics trax), as it includes those capabilities plus expanded support for 3d functions.

    Thanks!

this is what i get for doing work at mid night. When I looked at AVI the first time, I tried to click on Millions Colors+ but that was greyed out… what I forgot to do in AE was choose RGB + Alpha. so not realizing that I tried the tried and true QT animation, but clearly premiere pro doesn’t like.

I’m good now, thanks for the quick response!

how can it be just and RS-422 pass through only if it’s also allowing machine control for DV through the box by way of 422? If they claim you can control your FW dv deck via rs-422 when that box conected to your nle, it’s more than a simple pass through…

allowing the Media 100 p6000 board to run under adobe premiere in the ‘QX’ and ‘QXC’ days turned out to be a great way of boosting the economy of scale on that hardware to bring down costs. Allowing the HDX board to run under FCP may be a good way of shipping more hardware and thereby allowing you to drop the price on the HDX board as you increase units shipped… Perhaps learning from the past successes of media 100. (there were a couple of them if we look back far enough :-/ )

  • Why not use your old XR as a capture station… Media from iXR should be compatible with iHD. At those data rates you’d have NO problem capturing to an external FW drive and moving that across to your iHD to edit.

May 16, 2005 at 5:09 am in reply to: Really bad M100 cold-call yestarday

Make it 4K and you’ll buy? Maybe they should pay you to purchase it…?

I’m sure that their pricing structure is largely dictated by the Cost of the HARDWARE, the overhead of salary it takes to pay people to produce, support, market and sell it.

Now I’m not saying that media 100 is doing a bang up job here, but making blanket demand to lower to a given price and you’ll buy is pointless and to the people that work at m100 perhaps a little offensive. How would you feel if your clients demanded that you do your work for 1/2 of what you would actually need to charge to stay afloat before they’d consider going with your services?

I’ve personally been in the position of this ‘new’ person who’s at media 100, and sometime the people I’ve had to call upon were less than kind. Please keep in mind that you’ve got another human being on the other end of the line who did not create the mess she’s in (nor did very many of the people who are LEFT at m100 today) they are simply dealing with it’s aftermath and trying to make the company better!

More has happened to the Mac product from Media 100 since optibase has gotten a hold of it than the ENTIRE TIME that John Molinari was at the helm. You can’t add all the features that people are looking for into an existing piece of software overnight and still maintain the level of stability that users have have come to expect.

Now, I’m not a cheer leader for Optibase either. I think what they did to 844/x and to the people at media100 is shady at best. Whether you agree or not, 844/x was IMHO a truely amazing peice of engineering that had untold potential ahead of it, and for lack of vision or comitment, Optibase simply killed it. Tragic.

    Okay, rant over…

    Peace
