I make label templates in PhotoShop & simply modify them for use. You could also create forms & templates in most database programs. If the labels you use are on Avery stock, then your copy of MS Word or Appleworks may already have a template for them.

You can also export an XML of the project, in lieu of saving. Then quit FCP, open the XML & ‘Save As’ to overwrite the corrupted project file.

The odds of you fixing this yourself are astronomical. You really need to have this done by a colorist who’s not only skilled in film work, but who’s familiar with the specific lab that’s making your negative.
Every lab has their own way of doing things, and these idiosyncrasies make it all but impossible for there to be any kind of generic answer to this problem. The colorist needs to be calibrated to the film stock & chemistry mix, and then needs to know instinctively how what they see on the monitor translates onto an inter-positive, then onto a negative, then onto a print, then onto a screen. It’s part rocket science, part black art.

I believe he has to reverse polarity on the flux capacitor so that he can use it to reverse the polarity of the neutron flow. Crap! These damn tribbles are eating all of my quadro-triticalli!

I suspect that Avid & FCP will always import Quicktime. However, if MXF is widely adopted (and I expect it will be), then it absolutely pays to have the original MXF files. Take a look today at films from the 40s, 50s, 60s that are being restored & released on DVD (or even in theaters for limited runs). I’d like to think that Perestroika may be of interest to someone in 40 or 50 years to restore. If that’s the case, then DVDs with the original MXF or QT files could create a pristine original for the restoration. Tapeless, baby!!!!

For my money right now, I’d go with Hitachi or Seagate 500GB drives. Seagate bought Maxtor last year. It’ll be interesting to see what happens with them in the long run. In addition to barefeats.com, you can look on tomshardware.com for tests. barefeats tends to test with an eye towards video, audio or photoshop, tomshardware tends to test with an eye towards server use, but they test a wider variety of drives, & they have a nice chart of all the current models from all the current makers that they keep up to date.
