Export an EDL from Premiere and import it into FCP.

This is not a problem with FCP. this is a limitation of the DVCPro HD codec. I think this is explained in your camera’s manual.
If you shoot 24PA, FCP can remove the pulldown when you use Log & Transfer to import the footage.

There are none. The only way to play HDV out is with a capture card.

Thanks, Luke. That’s kind of what I thought. It would be interesting, if we could get a 2nd graphics card into the Mac to see what we could get out of it.
Perhaps we Mac Pro users should start a petition campaign for more slots…

Thanks, Luke. I wonder if it would be possible to use an expansion chassis to overcome these limits. Of course, that’s an imperfect solution because all of the slots in the expansion chassis share only the bandwidth of the slot it’s plugged into.
Regardless, I look forward to learning more. I think I see a Mac Resolve in my future!

The Kona 3 does not have any analog input. If you need input from an analog source, you will need an A to D converter. AJA makes a variety of mini an rack mount converters, as does Black Magic Designs.

What format of video are you digitizing? What speed is your RAID running at. Use the Kona system test program to test your drive speed. Also, how is the RAID formatted? For video it should probably be RAID 5 or RAID 0.

Honestly, the best way for what you want is not to use a 13″ laptop. If you’re serious about using FCP with Red footage & serious about color correction, get a Mac Pro tower, a Kona 3 card a very big, very fast RAID and a really good set of monitors, including a really good broadcast monitor.
