  • Hi Pat

I trust you’re well? How’s the rest of the team over at VET?

Thanks for your help, was too busy to reply before, but your comments were appreciated!

As I’ve just explained to Michael, I found that exporting as qt ref and then using Squeeze to encode the video instead of exporting straight from MC did the job.

The main reason for under-exposing whilst shooting (only a little mind you) is because I use a Dedolight DP1 Gobo Projection kit for background and use it on full brightness, under-exposing then bringing it up in post really helps make the background really pop.

Probably not ideal but works for me!

I did however heed your advice and took my exposure up a little.

    Again, many thanks
    Antony

Ok, thanks Glen. Planning to get a solid state main hard drive so will be reinstalling all software soon; hopefully that’ll stop my AMC crashing all of the time and fix this issue too.

    Thanks for your help

Thank you both Paddy and Glen

However, the problem I have is when I make a new sequence and press cmd+y, it adds 2, 3, 4, 5 then 6, 7, 8 between 3 and 4 every time. It’s confusing too, because the tracks are their right number order even if in the wrong order (I think) if that makes sense?

Paddy’s post helped fix the problem but it’s still a pain to have to do it each time.

Great! Thanks Paddy; I’ll try that.

I’m hoping to use Ropa Sans font-face and have already prepared a very nice background which I’d like to use on the layer below.

I assume it’s possible to do these with your solution?

  • Hi Michael and thanks for replying

As far as budget is concerned, I’m thinking £200 for a mixer (£300 at a stretch).

I don’t need it to be portable, but as you know I record voice-overs and I’m always looking to improve my workflow and therefore, I’m open to trying to record through the mixer and add a little compression and EQ to improve my recordings, but not sure whether I should wait and do this in Pro Tools in post..?

Because you’ve pointed out that my MBox2 mini quality is outdated, I’m thinking I should go for a mixer with USB and see if I can sell the MBox.

The Focusrite Scarlett 18i6 is at the top of my budget but is very different what I was expecting; I was looking at mixers that don’t rely on software.

I’m currently looking at a Behringer Xenyx X1222 USB 16 Input 2/2 Mixer + 24-Bit Multi-FX Processor + USB which will set me back about £200.

  • Hi Ricky

Thanks for the clarification. Yes; I tried this (again) last night but still no joy.

Now that I’ve invested in Sqeeze AVCHD plug-in, and installed DNxHD AMA the problem has moved on a bit (see above).

    Thanks for you’re help

  • Thanks Richard

I had already tried recreating the drive structure folders and any hidden files to link to it using AMA for AVCHD but with no joy I’m afraid.

The guy who took my complimentary Avid Support Code call suggested this but gave up trying several different approaches as at the time the aim was l find out best practices for AMA workflow.

He suggested I get the Squeeze DNxHD plug-in and transcode the files, then import them. I ended up biting the bullet and shelled out $100 so I could do this.

I transcoded to DNxHD 145 (the lowest quality option). However, now when I try and import the files I see there are multiple files in each folder Squeeze created (see attached Screen Shot) and there are so many options it makes it difficult to know what to import. I then installed DNxHD AMA and tried using AMA instead of importing but get error message, “Unable to link to any clips at /Volumes/AVCHD/DNxHD MOVs/2407 shoot/240712 prime/0000_DNxHD_145/”.

You were right; about the files were in a folder with a slash in the name by the way. Thanks!

  • Hi fellas

I’m afraid the filename is 000000.mov. I have already tried changing them to test1.mov but still no joy.

I’ll try the folder structure thing, to see if I can do just AVCHD AMA import them.

    Thanks for your replies
