Thanks Roland, but this seems a bit weird. As you can see from this new screenshot the comp is definitely at 100%.

This is a known problem and Trapcode have included a solution in Particular 2. Under the Emitter section play with ‘Position Subframe’, often 10x Linear works great but you may have to amp it up a little at the expense of rendering times if it’s still not working for you.

    Hi

I had to do the same thing a couple of months ago.

If this is for film output, then maybe your composition size is too small. That’s regular HD size, is that the size they requested?

The next problem we found was that the actual fonts that we had chosen weren’t designed as accurately as they should have been and the fault was actually within the font file. At small sizes they just looked crap and in fact it had to be big to get any kind of quality. However, the director wouldn’t change his mind so we just changed the design a bit and everybody decided just to live with it.

We also went through using Illustrator files etc., hoping that getting proper vector outlines would solve the problem. It didn’t.

Just in case it helps; I delivered a TIFF sequence RGB + Alpha, Trillions of colours, Pre-multiplied, with the project set to 16 BPC.

Contact me if you think I can help further.

    Hi

    I have a nut allergy but…

Do you mean fuzzy, out of focus, static/interference? Judging by the fact that you went looking through the presets first I’m guessing that you are quite new to AE, but please tell me if I’m wrong. If you are quite new and you want any of the effects I have mentioned you should be prepared to invest a good amount of time into ramping up your skills, none of them can be achieved with one click. Bad-TV is easier and you will be able to find some presets if you search, however you still need some basic AE knowledge to use any preset properly. Do a search for After Effects beginner tutorials – videocopilot.net/ is excellent.

If you do know AE then you can achieve the bad-TV look through making some noise (either through turbulent noise, cell pattern etc), maybe separating the RGB and then making a track matte with some text. Just animate the text in a jumpy style and voilà. VC has a great plug-in that you can buy called Twitch which will do a lot of this for you.

Sorry if this is more work than you anticipated, but AE isn’t a one click toy. It’s a beautiful but complex professional motion graphics/VFX tool.

I am getting similar problems. In fact nearly all the elements of CS4 & CS5 (Production Bundle) crash on quit and always have. I am fed up writing out crash reports. It’s extremely annoying.

  • I remember the tutorial you are referring to and I THINK it was on FXPHD and it was free. However, I needed it last year and it took me ages to find it so good luck. It may have been Mark Christiansen…?

I have been given a lens flare shot on 2K film and I am trying to give it an alpha channel using the technique Ben Rollason has described in one of his tutorials. Basically Straight to Pre-multiplied/invert.

  • OK, the coffee finally kicked in. The pixel aspect ratio is 2:1 but the screen aspect ratio is 2.35:1. Therefore I made a comp of 1000x 426 and everything is hunky dory.

Enjoy your weekend. Beautiful weather here in London, hope it’s the same with you.

  • Nothing more than lots of good Italian coffee… maybe too much…

However, I have tried that method and it doesn’t work. I have no idea why. It should. It’s the first thing I tried. As a way of checking I put a circle effect in the original composition/design. When I put that into a 1000 x 500 (square pixel) and then scaled the comp to fit the circle is not round anymore. Somewhere along the line I am doing something really stupid…

  • Dylan, you may be able to find that file on your Mac by CTRL-clicking the After Effects application and choosing ‘open package’. HOWEVER, I do NOT recommend doing this unless you are confident you know what you are doing or have backed up completely.
