    Hi

I know this is probably not very useful to you but, this is the producer’s job. If you’re the designer (I’m only guessing but this is a design forum) you shouldn’t be accepting a responsibility that you are not being financially compensated for, so I hope you are!

  • There was a thread about this around a year ago and someone posted a link to the director narrating a ‘behind the scenes’ vid. Seek and ye shall find. Cool effect done well. Dull music.

Darby, the Pacifist route worked for me.

Download QT 7.3 but then unpack it with Pacifist. Select the list of contents then use the ‘install into default location’ in Pacifist. Remember to click the ‘replace’ option when it asks.

Yep, me too. Big thanks to whoever came up with that.

And thank Darth Cruise for watching over us in our times of crisis… 😉

I hope so, an hour after I posted and said that ‘luckily’ I didn’t have any projects to render… a job came in.

Same here, but after testing I have found that rendering as a file sequence (TARGA etc) still works. Phew. But what a cock-up by Apple.

  • I had a sneaking suspicion that I didn’t really understand the concepts behind my puzzlement. Thanks for confirming that!

If I wanted to make a preset that automatically linked the values of the Levels (Individual Controls) applied to one layer to the same on another layer, how would I start? I’m thinking that the preset would somehow include a drop-down from which I could choose the layer I wanted to take values from. I know this may seem overkill for something seldom used, but there are 20+ possible values to be linked.

Example: 2 layers, Cow and Pig. I apply Levels (IC) to Cow, then to Pig. In Pig I apply my preset and choose Cow as source. As I adjust Levels (IC) in Cow, Pig follows.

    Anyway, just an idea.

    Cheers

  • Many thanks, but I’m slightly surprised by this.

  • Explore: directional blur, Trapcode Shine, roughen edges, changing between two typefaces and animating the scale/character tracking. That should get you close – It doesn’t look too complicated.

Often I think (generally, not aimed at you) the mistake is in expecting that there will be one effect or commercial plugin that will reproduce something that you have seen. Mostly, it was probably achieved by a designer/artist playing around and combining effects until they arrived at something they liked (or the deadline hit).

Also, question yourself on why you would want to reproduce something that someone else has done. Fine, if you are doing it to learn, equally fine if it’s a starting point for your own vision; but as an end in itself? I hope not.

Good luck – and I didn’t intend to embark on a lecture!

Do a search for the Retrodots plugin from Dragonfly
