November 6, 2017 at 2:24 am in reply to: Red Block instead of Timeline after High Sierra UpgradeThings have been weirder since the upgrade to High Sierra. But nothing that routine troubleshooting can’t take care of.
Still, definitely looking forward to 10.4.

November 2, 2017 at 6:43 pm in reply to: How to preserve color correction decisions from FCP > AE/PP?Thank you, Jeff and Jeremy!
My intention is to be able to preserve color decisions without requiring the client to purchase any extra software.
I’ll try the Resolve route, looks promising.
Thanks again.

October 31, 2017 at 3:04 am in reply to: FCPX constantly freezing Client review tomorrowMy troubleshooting routine:
-restart app, restart machine
-trash FCPX prefs
-try new project/library, copy old media there (is there a specific file or plugin that’s causing this?)
-try a fresh user account
-last resort is a fresh install -
Thank you so much! Haven’t had a chance to try yet, but sounds like just what I need.

I wonder if the trick where you duplicate the video on top of itself, set if off by one frame, and set it 50% opacity works?
I know it works for flashing, but I haven’t tried it for moire.

Thank you Oliver!
A bit more clear on this now…. I think ☺
Couple of takeaways:
1. Deleting stuff within FCPX never actually deletes any media anywhere – ever.
2. The only way to MOVE media vs. COPY it is to consolidate from a LIBRARY to an EXTERNAL FOLDER. Every other option only copies, never moves the media. This includes consolidating from one library to another – THIS ONLY COPIES THE MEDIA.With this in mind, if I wanted to split my library into two libraries, each with its own separate media content and without duplicating any media between these two libraries, the only way to do that would be:
1. Open existing library, create a second one
2. For media location of the second library, specify an external folder
3. Move my projects and events into second library in FCPX
4. Consolidate second libraryThis will actually move the media files from the first library to an external folder referenced by the second library AND remove them from the first library.
I think I got this right – but let me know if this logic doesn’t make sense to you. Thanks a bunch! Anton

That was it – had to switch inspector to Settings view, which revealed Log Processing.
Then change that one from Sony SLOG 3 to None.
MANY THANKS!

Yes, I had this happen a couple of times. Not clear what causes it. I usually quit/restart FCP right away, which seems to fix it.

January 8, 2017 at 6:01 pm in reply to: Convert or compress mxf files for easier use in FCPI have just finished editing a large 4K project shot with a Sony and MXF files. I used the “Leave files in place” option on import and did not create optimized media. The edit went smoothly, no issues at all.
Keep it as simple as you can.
