External drives are for storage not to edit with.
External drives get to hot and can’t get rid off the heat very easily and therefor go bust.
Probably not the answer you want to hear.
Internal drives are the best. So you might need to do some housecleaning first.

Run the mpeg file through GSpot and you will see which field it uses. Then run the avi file see if that is the same. My guess: it is lower or bottom field first.
Export setting should always be the same as the project settings. If GSpot says the file is lower field your project also needs to be lower field. In this case it will never be progressive and do not deinterlace.

Sync all the clips and use the multicam.

Make it mono.

You need to get a second disk.
One disk just for the OS and all the programs and nothing else.
The other one (the largest one) for all your footage, projects etc.

I think it has something to do with your computer, when i hit K or space bar Premiere stops instantly. The same goes for placing unnummered markers on the timeline.

Or nest the video and keyframe the effect.
