    Hi guys

Very frustrating problem – first my workflow:

    Video8 tapes—>Sony Analogue Handycam—>RF 3000 Universal Video modulator—>Pinnacle Dazzle TV Analogue Capture Card—>Mpeg—>Adobe Premiere Pro—>DV Pal AVI—>idvd

No matter what field settings and format I export to, I still get the incorrect field order style flickering, despite the fact it plays fine inside Premiere. I’ve read that analogue footage is Upper Field first, but I’ve tried:

Upper field first project—>Upper field first export settings
Upper field first project—>Lower field first export settings
Upper field first project—>Progressive / deinterlace export settings
Lower field first project—>Upper field first export settings
Lower field first project—>Lower field first export settings
Lower field first project—>Progressive / deinterlace export settings

As mentioned, I’ve tried exporting to Avi, Quicktime, M2V+WAV (to avi via mpeg streamclip) and mpg (to avi via mpeg streamclip) with no luck. The DVD plays fine on a PC, so I definitely think it’s a field problem, but what?

I need to have the thing finished by tomorrow so any suggestions gratefully received!

    Many Thanks

Run the mpeg file through GSpot and you will see which field it uses. Then run the avi file see if that is the same. My guess: it is lower or bottom field first.
Export setting should always be the same as the project settings. If GSpot says the file is lower field your project also needs to be lower field. In this case it will never be progressive and do not deinterlace.

    Hi Ann

Thanks to your suggestion I think I’ve found the problem – the source mpegs are Upper field first, yet premiere is still exporting a lower field first AVI despite coming from an Upper Field first project and being set to export upper field first – any idea why this could be?

    Many thanks again…

    *EDIT*
OK I’ve finally found a workaround! It’s the exported file format that’s the problem. SO I converted the exported AVI file to m2v+avi using tmpgenc set at upper field first, which retained the field order, then used Toast to burn the files directly without the need for idvd…this then played correctly.

Thanks for your help in getting me to the solution!
