How many “go figures” can Sony throw our away before it’s unacceptable? I got delayed by about 12 hours trying to edit a big show when I switched to Vegas 11 (a mistake on my part). I’m editing on Vegas 10a because that seems to be the most reliable between 10 and 11, though at some point I may try running 9 again.

I didn’t check any of that OpenCL compatibility that you mention, Dave. I’m able to turn GPU acceleration on with the GTS 450 that I bought to take advantage of GPU acceleration, though I only notice an improvement in performance in mpg rendering. I’m not even using Vegas 11 until I reformat my computer, which I’ll do whenever the guy who built it for me gets me the Windows 7 installation disc.

By the way, even though the Radeon 6870 is listed as a compatible card, I couldn’t get Vegas 11 to recognize it, even after updating the drivers.

Just got an error with the new drivers and the monitor went black for a few seconds. I rolled back the drivers. Maybe I’ll uninstall the old ones then try installing the new ones again.

Until yesterday, Windows Media Player played AVCHD fine. I have VLC and used to use it since it was so versatile, but I started having problems with it a while ago and made WMP my main player, and I really like it. VLC would play things in the incorrect aspect ratio (I know I could change it, but it was a pain to do it every time, and it would do weird things like show everything with a horrible pink or green tint.
I’ll be reformatting any day now.

Hopefully reinstalling Windows fixes the issue. And I know what a codec is, but what’s a codec pack? Are there any settings for my antivirus (Eset) that I should check?
Also, Vegas does require you to register it online to use it-do you just connect your computer to the internet for that?

I would say use the search function on your computer for it if you named it, or find a system restore point that will restore your computer to when you had the project open.

Right, I forgot to mention that I use Cineform Neoscene to convert my AVCHD footage into avi. I have the latest version of Neoscene.
Editing 20 multicam tracks on Vegas 10a is really slow, but if there’s no bugs or crashes then it’s a huge improvement over Vegas crashing or error reporting every time I start it. I’ll reinstall Windows, try to make sure there’s no resource conflicts, update all my drivers (again), and if that doesn’t work I can’t afford to switch to Avid or Premiere anytime soon, so I don’t know what I’ll do. And I really don’t want to switch-I’ve used both of those programs and like Vegas’ interface a great deal more. But Vegas’ interface is starting to include dozens of crashes a day.

Incredible. I reinstalled Vegas 10, and 10a works better than 10e.
