Can’t play AVCHD video in Windows Media Player after getting Nvidia update
Anyone else experience this? I have a GeForce GTS 450 and got an update that apparently came out last night. AVCHD videos are black, though the audio plays. I’m able to play avi video fine, though. This only happens in Windows Media Player. I tried playing in Quicktime (which I normally don’t like doing) and it was fine.

Were they playing fine in media player before you did the update?

Use VLC instead of Windows Media Player for AVCHD files and you’ll be much happier 🙂

I know you don’t want to hear this… I applied the update on my test machine (GTX-460) and everything works well. If there are no problems with this update I will apply it to my production machine in about 3-4 weeks.
It looks as though you could really use that reformat!

I updated my GTX 570 to the NVidia 285.62 version on Windows 7 SP1 64 bit. Windows Media player plays my Panasonic TM900 1920x1080x60p native files fine. I have not tried the lower resolution formats though. My Vegas Pro 11 is now very usable, where it was hanging with previewing video with the previous NVidia drivers. I’m only doing small projects so far for personal use, and not using the multi-camera option.

Until yesterday, Windows Media Player played AVCHD fine. I have VLC and used to use it since it was so versatile, but I started having problems with it a while ago and made WMP my main player, and I really like it. VLC would play things in the incorrect aspect ratio (I know I could change it, but it was a pain to do it every time, and it would do weird things like show everything with a horrible pink or green tint.
I’ll be reformatting any day now.

Just got an error with the new drivers and the monitor went black for a few seconds. I rolled back the drivers. Maybe I’ll uninstall the old ones then try installing the new ones again.

To me, thats the best option i would recommend, to simply
role back and stick with the driver you had before.Steve Rhoden

Mike, I have a GTS450 and the new NVIDIA drivers does have a problem.
I noticed the problem with my Windows Media Center when I attempted to watch live TV from my TV tuner, audio works but no video.
I haven’t rolled back yet but I might.
