Do you have the proper broadcast specs to render to? I ran into an issue similar to this recently with footage from DVCPro tapes. If I were to put closed captioning, I believe I would have had to render to one resolution in mpeg2. If no closed captioning was necessary, then mov was an option in a different resolution.

It worked fine, thanks to Vegas. On Final Cut it wouldn’t have worked, because it would have required resizing the video for 720×480, which would have created pillarboxing.
However, now one of the videos has a DRM type code in it called veiled encoding (I posted about it in a new thread), so the broadcaster can’t use that despite the video itself being broadcast safe. And the original company that made the videos no longer has any of the files or projects to render it out in more suitable settings, so I’m going to have to see with my client what a work around will be.

I’m still working on it. Basically, I gathered what you did-it’s a way of the original company to track their video.
Editing the video isn’t a problem, which runs fine in Vegas. The broadcaster can’t run the video, though. And since the original company doesn’t have any files to work with anymore, I’ll see if I can frankenstein the commercial from parts of other commercials for the same company that don’t have veiled encoding.
There’s one shot, however, in which this won’t be possible, because it’s not in any other video that’s not veiled. So I don’t know whether we’ll have to get someone who knows motion graphics to recreate it as long as I can piece together the commercial from clips of different versions of it from the same company, or if I’ll have to get all the original DVCPro tapes digitized so I can recreate the entire thing.
The real problem is that the company that originally made and rendered these no longer has any digital copies they can render to correct specifications, so now I’m just working around that.

I’d have to leave my PC on for days at a time in this case. I’d rather take my chances and just tell Sony to fix it. And in 7-9 months, they’ll be on the case.

Will do. I also noticed that in my rendered video, one shot stutters, though it hasn’t on a previous render I did for a different format, and on the timeline it previews smoothly. Thanks.

That might be asking a lot at that price, but I’ve heard several sites recommend GoPros, which are pretty inexpensive.

Try right clicking on the video on the timeline, and select “Disable Resampling”. I don’t know if that will work for sure, but try it out and let us know how it goes. I do that when I’m cutting video to 24 fps that I shot at 30 fps, and it makes Vegas remove the extra frames instead of blending them together or whatever other algorithm that doesn’t quite work.

Woops, I spoke too soon. The video won’t play in WMV, and I can’t seem to open it in VLC in the first place. Now I don’t know if this will work.
Edit: It works fine on VLC. I may as well upload it to the broadcaster. Thanks again, John. I was stressing about this all week.
