Fortunately it’s easy enough to reconstruct (and it’s my own project and not for a client), but I was gutted to see a nearly completed video gone. Not even the bak backup file was there.

Gotta stop posting as your alter ego, “Steven Mann with a Mustache” on the Final Cut forums.

Is iZotope Nectar Elements useful for cleaning up dialogue shot on location and not just voice over in a studio?

If you’re doing the upgrade, it’s only a $25 difference or so. I bought Pro 13 (with NewBlue plugins and DVD Architect), even though I originally intended to just get Edit.

So far it’s worked great. I want to see how it performs with Cineform and getting footage between that and DaVinci Resolve (once I learn that). The only downside is render time does seem a little bit slower than Vegas 11.

Also, it can run 4k footage from a GH4 well, and I plan on buying one of those.

In my opinion, yes. There’s several little things that make it so much more convenient to use.

  • Did you check Vegas preferences? Maybe you can set it to be a keyboard shortcut there. But somehow, if there isn’t already one, I doubt you can make one. In which case, suggest it as a new feature to Sony. I’m amazed at how simple some of the Project Media management settings make so much sense in Vegas 13 and wonder how they weren’t implemented years ago.

I’ll agree with John (and my earlier post). Do not buy from Dell. They probably make it hard to upgrade parts, forcing you to buy their proprietary upgrades. If you can’t build your own computer (and it’s not that hard-I recommend just looking up recommended specs online, or buying a book like Mike Meyers’ Comptia A+ certification books and read on how the hardware works), hire someone you can trust who will build one for you, as I did for my current editing desktop.

That’s not the shutter-that’s interlacing artifacts in your video when you need to have your video rendered out to progressive scan.

Make sure your project settings match the video properties, which you can get Vegas to match automatically. Since it’s probably interlaced footage, in the project settings, set the De-interlace method to “Blended” or “Interpolated”. Blended is used on footage without much motion since you’ll see more blur from it with motion, so you might want to try Interpolated.

And when you render, render out to progressive scan and set de-interlace method to “None”.

I don’t remember requesting it, but I can’t imagine editing without it. I didn’t even realize this could be a feature, but it makes so much sense. This, along with making the power button on TV remotes in the same place on every one, should be legally mandated.
