Just no advantage. Normal computer systems are much faster than they were in the late 90s and early 2000s so dedicated hardware was needed for workflow speed. Software implementations are better, in general, now as well.

Hm, nevermind. I got a call from my production partner and renting a Red One from another friend will beat out all those prices. Problem solved.

I’m sure others will chime in but here is my initial thought:

    1. Remove oven door
    2. Once bread is in place, cover oven opening with a sheet of thermal glass.
    3. Light with three soft sources: one left, right, and top. Soft sources out of the angle of reflection of the glass.
    4. Shoot your time lapse.

    Should work easily enough.

Try looking at sites that specialize in indie films or even foreign films. All MPAA member studios are required to use the title card in-theater and, so far as I can tell, they adhere to the title card online as well.

Tripod screws are usually 1/4″-20tpi(threads per inch). Any major hardware store should have a ton of variations for it.

    https://www.google.com/support/youtube/bin/answer.py?answer=132460

Youtube is not 24p, you have been given false info on that. Chances are you/they were confused over the fact that 24p is mentioned in their FAQ — it’s only a reference to avoid stuff that has a pulldown applied (film transfer to NTSC for instance). Youtube recommends staying with your native framerate.

    1. You can either change the comp framerate and adjust for timing issues (better quality but will throw timing off) or let the chips fall where they may if you let Premiere or Adobe Media Encoder convert the framerate (through a process of frame blending and frame drops/duplications). And yes, to clear myself up, I mean changing to comp’s framerate in AE.

If you’re just going to let Adobe Media Encoder do a conversion, I would suggest turning frame blending off for motion graphics.

    2. If the majority of your footage is 29.97, stick to it. No reason to convert the majority of your material since you don’t have to.

November 1, 2011 at 10:06 pm in reply to: Hardware vs. Software with 1-pass CBR

What CBR and 1-pass VBR do is vary the Q (take this as quality) level to maintain bitrate. Granted 1-pass VBR will fluctuate bitrate to accommodate but you’ll never really see big bitrate swings with 1-pass unless you set wide min and max values.

2-pass VBR uses the analytical first pass to determine bitrate for a particular set of frames. Quantization errors, for lack of a better term in this context, is a codecs “bad guess” at a target bitrate.

2-pass CBR, while you are correct in that it sets an average bitrate that works for the whole piece, also avoids these “bad guesses”.

Granted these errors are more noticeable at lower bitrates, so maybe I’m extending my paranoia past the scope of your situation.

    https://tangentsoft.net/video/mpeg/enc-modes.html isn’t a bad quick read.

In your timeline, do the joined pieces butt up directly next to each other? If they don’t then ripple delete. If the gap is less than the width of the frame, check the framerate of your files and your sequence to make sure they match.

If everything looks fine and there are no gaps, your camera is probably dropping frames between files. Try a 2 or 4 frame wide cross fade between pieces to hide the dropped frame.

November 1, 2011 at 9:06 pm in reply to: Jerky footage in CS4

Your Toshiba uses the h.264 codec in an AVI container… the problem is AVI is old and h.264 isn’t super compatible with the container so it’s prone to breakage (like you’re seeing in playback).

Grab MPEG Streamclip (https://www.squared5.com) and try re-wrapping your files in MP4 or MOV. You aren’t converting the actual footage, just taking it out of the AVI and sticking it in a different “box” so it should be a quick fix to run on your footage as a troubleshooting step in your workflow.

November 1, 2011 at 8:51 pm in reply to: What’s the best video bit rate for the web

No, you’re right there. I said between 1mbps and 2mbps and you’re saying 2500kbps also known as 2.5mbps. If you’re happy with those results for the amount of detail and motion in your shots, I’d say your initial estimates are on target.
