In the meantime I installed Event Manager, and that made the trick, at least now I can see one of my updated projevcts/events, the one I need to work on!

I tried that, but the Events and Projects folders on my external harddisk were not higlighted and could not be chosen

no box popped up, window just closed, and I was back to fcp’s interface

no error warning – chose to update ALL events, projects

Believe me, I never expected compound clips to be simple! But at least they should be simple to use, otherwise, what’s the idea?
We all know that editing is time consuming work, so any way of doing things smarter is welcome. I spent 1 ½ year on this doc,so I don’t really think I deserve ’the mess’ I’m making, like you say.What I have read in fora etc. Is that people DO use compound clips exactly to simplify things (which is not the same as to say CC are simple!), but it would be nice to have a thorough explanation of how many clips max. you can compound and undo without messing up.

Andrew and Rafael, thanx for trying to help.
I might try Rafaels suggestion of putting my progressive sequence into a interlaced sequence – only I’m working with FCP X and it doesn’t seem to give the possibility of choosing…
So my question remains, if Compressor can be used to convert from progressive to interlaced?

Rafael, what do you mean by the ‘standard’? When I do the export to Quicktime from the timeline? (I use fcpX).
I read somewhere, that if the sequence is progressive it won’t export to interlaced – but this is what you say?
(and how can I check if it is? The info doesn’t show…)

I don’t know with which camera this is shot, it is shot in the UK, my client sent me the files (and when clicking on the info, the size is what it is…)
When I transcode the files to Prores (that should match my sequence settings) , I keep getting a red bar on top, and need to render.
Why do I have to render at all, when I have trancoded into PRores? -
helas no it wasn’t, that’s why I asked…
