Clients like that are great aren’t they?

Some PC DVD players de-interlace DVD video on the fly (Apples DVD player can)and an interlaced disc looks OK – probably not too helpful if your client is using another player that won’t do this.

Shake’s sounding less and less useful for my usual video work – but I’ll try the trial and pretend I’m working on a feature!

I think you’re right – motion graphics I’ll still do in AFX but Shake has such a reputation that for the money they’re now asking it seems like it might be worth learning for those things where it’s better than AFX. Chromakeying for example?

Couple of things come to mind:

Can it read the M100 codec?
Can you render out using the M100 codec?
How’s audio handled?

If you’re running QuickTime 7 try uninstalling and going back to QuickTime 6. I know QT7 does not work properly with the ifinish codec.

I’m using Graffiti 2.1

It looks the same in the text and composite windows.

I’ve been playing around and some fonts look OK like Geneva but most don’t including arial and helvetica.

If I import a text file in .rtf format it looks OK in arial but in helvetica the letter below the accent is squashed so the accent is no higher than the surrounding letters!

So I can get round this by choosing the right font but it’s annoying nonetheless!

This is actually quite different from a title position problem which as you say involves setting a hold keyframe – this is about the way Graffiti is displaying the accent on upper-case letters ie. behind them.

Interestingly if you press the space bar the accent moves to the correct position and then drops again when you take your finger off the space bar – weird!

Good point about the monitoring – I’ll think about the work around.

I will probably put the time into Boris – might be easier to learn than AFX!

Cinemacraft is well worth the money, it just saves so much time and you know it’s going to look great, and of course you can carry on creating on the Mac at the same time.

The other reason for buying a PC was that most of my clients are PC based and I needed a way to check stuff before I handed it over like interactive CD-ROMs and WMV files. I think it’s inevitable that we have to have a PC in the corner looking ugly!
