I’m going to stick my kneck out here and say that the encoding tools available for the mac are inferior to those available for the PC unless all you want to produce are QuickTime movies.

I’m a big Mac fan having bought my first one in 1989. I’ve never owned a PC until last year and now I do all my file encoding on the PC using Procoder for WMV’s and MPEG-1 and Cinemacraft for MPEG-2.

Both work faster than real time and produce better results tha BitVice, Cleaner, Mainconcept, Wired MediaPress etc – I’ve tried them all.

I tried uninstalling and then reinstalling – still not launching.

Then I did as you suggested and created a new user account and M100 launched!

I did delete the prefs earlier, but maybe I missed something somewhere?

Do you think this really is a prefs issue? What about QuickTime getting mangled by another app?

It seems XDCAM is the answer to all our prayers (I think!) here’s a really comprehensive article from a tester here in the UK:-

At the end of the day I think it comes down to this: P2 is useless for anything but news and is made by Panasonic!; HDCAM is too expensive for most small companies/individuals; HDV is not quite good enough compared to the other HD formats, although probably fine for a lot of non-broadcast work (it would be interesting to see what HDV looks like with a better camera than the Z1); so by a process of elimination that leaves XDCAM which has been approved for full acquisition by Discovery Channel and is cheaper than Digibeta!

In my case I don’t think it’s the PC, I think it’s just that FLVs are inherentlyr ‘Jerky’. Sometimes it’s quite subtle but compared to WMV, QuickTime and MPEG, FLVs just not as smooth.

I’ve had bad experiences with this method before but in my latest system I think it’s more relaiable.

Seems to be a limit to the number of clips in a bin (>1000?) after which you can’t select, delete etc. (parameter error) so I’m doing audio, video etc seperately- which is probably safer anyway.

Also I’m getting an ‘Error 1’ when searching for clips in a particular project (directory corruption?) so might need to do some manual deleting there.
