Hi all,
Thx for the great response + the .aep.. I have substituted the 3D figure for a camera I had shot on a turntable.. It works pretty well. One thing I wonder, is there a way to substitute the “revTime=”(manually insert time in seconds) for something that would automatically insert the acurate duration of the source object comp ? For example, my source comp with one full rotation is 2:13 duration (PAL 25fps), this roughly comverts to 2.55 actual seconds. It would be great if the expression could calculate the source’s length ? Any ideas ?

Hi Todd,
Thanks for that suggestion. I will consider using .TGA sequences instead of quicktime clips, however, i’m also using illustrator elements + plugins (stroke, particular etc) in the comp.
I think I might have figured out another approach. A little time consuming although, this could work..
1) create full comp with all elements.
2) position nulls in the comp at the centres of the screens to output.
3) reduce comp size to 1024×768
4) Parent all elements to a single null. Offset the entire stage to fit the screen location required. (i.e offset until the required screens’ centre is in the centre of the new comp)
5) RENDER.If i’m correct, AE only renders what it sees so it’s not trying to calculate anything outside of the visible comp (?) This should save it calculating the entire 9K image, thus saving memory. At least that’s my theory…. Will try tomorrow when I return to the office. Thanks for the replies so far..

Hi Todd,
Thanks for your response. That’s exactly what I am doing.
The problem is, AE is trying to render the whole 9Kx2K comp into the frame buffer. That’s when it dies.. What I need to do is force it only to render the area i’m interested in and ignore anything outside of that particular area.Any more suggestions ?
Thx,

Thanks Chris… exactly what I was looking for..

Hi Adam,
Great Now I understand. Previously I was scaling using the attribute manager. Now instead using the object scale I see the result I was looking for.
Try it Chris, it works.. Thanks for that Adam.

Hi Adam,
Thanks alot.. I was applying the texture to the alpha channel instead.. Got mixed up between transparency and alpha…Sorry for the confusion and thanks for your help..

Hey Adam,
Resetting the system will just scale everything back down to 1,1,1.
What I (and Chris) are trying to do is :-
1) import an object.
2) scale to arbitrary size. Say x:50,y:4,z:3
3) “FREEZE” the object at that size but with the values 1,1,1.Thx,
Andy

Hi Adam,
Thanks for your response. However I have already achieved this. What i’d like to do is to be able to project a colour image from a light onto objects in my scene. If I use the transparency channel I only get a b/w OR gobo effect from the light NOT a full colour image projected onto my objects.
I hope this is clear.. Anyone else got any idea ?
Thx,
Andy

Hi Chris,
I think you explained it better than me. Has anyone got a solution to this ?
