exactly .. should be done a bin level, just as you would for creating a multiclip … it creates a new “merged” clip item which you use thereafter

I can’t seem to duplicate your problem here …. for reference, I select both a video clip and an audio clip in the browser, right click (ctrl click) that selection and choose Merge Clips… from the context menu, seems to work fine. What are the steps you are taking when trying to merge your new audio with video?

Have a bash with my Simple Crop plugin, its meant to make sticking a border on a cropped clip easier but should work for adding a border with or without cropping. It may or may not evidence the same issues as you’re already seeing but its possibly worth a try (its free).

Very gracious of you to post with the results of your own recent dilemma in the hope of helping out others in the future, I mean that sincerely. That said, I think you might possibly have led yourself astray along the way in your experimentation, and its important we try not lead others down the same path unnecessarily. According to your post, you delivered a 16:9 HD project as a letterboxed 16:10 file (at a greater than HD resolution)? That seems pretty unusual, was it per a specific delivery requirement? If not, then for reference, in my own experience delivering letterboxed usually means the original 16:9 (1.78:1) HD image shown within a 4:3 (1.33:1) SD frame, or perhaps cropping the image to a film aspect (like 1.85:1, 2.35:1 etc) within the original 16:9 (1.78:1) HD frame. This can usually be achieved most easily using Compressor’s geometry controls which includes presets for exactly such things. Gotta love easy 🙂

Other than Dell having a bit of a QC issue with this one, the U2410 looks to be a lot of monitor for a bargain price. If you get a good one you should be pretty happy. There is what appears to be a reasonable objective technical review here:

You might try using an FxPlug based text generator instead of TextUp Pro … have no idea if that would resolve the issue per se just something that may be worth a try.

If the resultant files are too unwieldy for your system then I’d suggest you try a transcode (and downconvert) of the source files to something more appropriate for your system and delivery target … am thinking good old DV or DV50 might be suitable.

What was the original source for these clips? Are they HD or SD? What format are you used to working in with your MacBook? What is your delivery requirement for this project?

I believe the OP was referring to a bastardized use of the Match Frame to Source File (Cmd-Option-F)
That isn’t really what you need … you’d be better off simply disabling effects in the Sequence Settings window > Render Control tab where you can toggle on/off the Render and Playback : Filters option

There is no function available with FxScript or the FxPlug SDK that returns the clip name data that you need … if you want this for free you’ll have to wrangle an XML solution such as that already done by Andreas Kiel (Spherico) with his TCR Plus solution. It’s easily doable if you have the programming skill, time and inclination, but if you don’t then you have to contribute something towards someone else’s skill, time and inclination in order to receive the same result … and really, in this game, a 50 buck investment in your business (and the future revenue from your client) is the next best thing to free.
