Another thing you’ll want to watch for Louis is having too many sequences open … although they are not active / displayed, FCP still needs to pre-load them so they can be instantly ready whenever you switch to them. If you have multiple working sequences in your project then consider closing those you are not actively using, opening them from the Browser only if and when you do actually need them, rather than keeping them open as tabs in the timeline/canvas.

You shouldn’t ned to install extra codecs Matt, the IMX50 codec is installed as part of your FCP install. I think what Paul is suggesting is just that by default AJA may no longer install Easy Setups / Capture Presets etc for all formats … you can create your own by simply duplicating and modifying an existing preset (duplicate the existing AJA Uncompressed 8-bit capture preset, then edit the duplicate and change the Compressor to IMX50) or perhaps there is an option in the latest AJA installer to install additional presets.

Yes, you can emulate FCP on a Windows PC by running Adobe Premiere, Avid Media Composer, Sony Vegas, Grass Valley Edius or Editshare Lightworks etc Indeed, you have a great many good NLE choices for that platform … but FCP is not one of them, sorry.

Mike, the first effect looks like a pretty typical “Bad TV” treatment … fair enough for that style of content I suppose but it was all a bit trite. I bet their client loved it tho. Didn’t watch the second clip, the first was quite enough for me.

Aha… well, now in that case I’m not entirely sure what you are trying to do. It sounds like you have your main desktop display (Dell E207WP) connected to the primary output of your graphic card; the MXO connected to the second output of your graphics card and your second desktop display (Dell 24″) connected to the DVI output from the MXO … and an external reference monitor connected to the MXO via SDI, Component, S-Video or Composite. Is that correct? It would be helpful if you would describe your setup to confirm/deny?

The MXO has 2 modes: there’s Presentation mode, where it acts as a desktop display passthrough device, passing the incoming extended desktop signal to its own DVI output (and simultaneously a scan converted video signal of that desktop to all the other outputs); and there’s Mastering mode, where it displays a broadcast quality full screen video signal to it’s DVI output (and simultaneously to all the other outputs too). So here’s the thing, when you are working in FCP and you enable external video (Cmd F12), the MXO will switch to Mastering mode and you will no longer see a desktop on your second display, instead it will become a video monitor showing your edit full screen; when you disable external video then the MXO switches to Presentation mode and you see the regular extended desktop on the second display. You can’t have it both ways, it can’t be in both modes at once.

Does that sound like whats happening with your setup?

Hey Marcial … you mentioned your “MXO2” in the last post, but in this one you say “MXO” … that may be just shorthand, but the MXO and MXO2 are wholly and complete different devices. Can you clarify with full details of your system and setup.

Check your View menu> Video Playback settings. You’ve not inadvertently set that to Digital Cinema Desktop have you? Would assume you’d not be getting video through the MXO2 if that was the case, but it bears asking. What happens if you disable External Video playback altogether (Cmd F12 to toggle on/off). Apart from disabling the MXO2 does that rectify the behavior on the second monitor with a regular dual screen layout?

You can grab my Better 3D plugin here : https://web.me.com/andymees (its way down at the bottom of the page) … add that to your Plugins folder (at /Library/Application Support/Final Cut Pro System Support/Plugins) and then quit ad restart FCP. You should then see it in the Effects > Video Filters > Perspective bin … add that to your text and then go to the Filters tab. You can spin it around the Z axis using the “Z axis Rotation” control, and you can change the anchor point for that spin by using the Anchor control … just click the “+” and then click (or click and drag) in the Canvas window to move the crosshair where you want the anchor point to be.

Sorry, the “Nudge Up/Down” function only works on either video or audio, it won’t work if you try to nudge both at the same time.
If its applicable to your needs you can target just one or the other to move by using the track auto select buttons (or the track locks) … but thats too clunky if you actually need to move both, in which case it seems a whole lot easier to just “opt a” and then drag it manually.
