What is the ratio of 720p to DV source footage and what is the intended delivery format. Mixing progressive and interlaced footage is never especially pretty, but if the majority of the footage is DV and you are intending to deliver as DV then you can convert the 720p50 footage to 50i first so as to maintain the temporal consistency of the footage (although of course you are inevitably throwing away resolution in the process). But if the majority of the footage is 720p and you want to end up with an HD master then you’ll need to edit in a 720p50 sequence and to de-interlace and upscale the DV footage to fit.

    Hey Tim
Curious. The options should be there which seems to suggest you have a somehow corrupted installation … I’d hesitantly recommend FCS Remover (https://www.digitalrebellion.com/fcsremover/) followed by a reinstall of FCS. But before you do that, just try creating a new user account, log in to that account and then open FCP and see if the XDCAM@720p option is there. Could be a permissions issue in your user account,
    Cheers

Bugger. What happens if you just create your own Easy Setup for it … does that one stick?
Open up the Audio/Video Settings window and set the Sequence Preset to the required XDCAM EX 720p preset, set the Capture Preset to “Generic Capture Template” (or something more appropriate if you want the same Easy Setup to allow you to capture from a different device), set Device Control Preset to “Non-Controllable Device” (or as appropriate for the potential capture source), Video Playback to “None” (or as wanted) and Audio Playback to “Default” (or as wanted). Then click the “Create Easy Setup…” button

In the Easy Setup window Tim, what do have chosen for “Format” and “Rate” ?

Here’s a quick explainer from Ken Stone’s excellent web site:

    Hi Tim
The Easy Setup choices are filtered according to Format and Rate … make sure that you are not inadvertently filtering out your intended choice.

Interestingly (well maybe not that interesting) the FCP Basics forum is blissfully free of FCP X posts … so for a bit of sanity we can always just pop over there. 🙂

Its all speculation Dennis, none of us are privy to the code base … and if anyone is then they’re under NDA .. but we can still have a bash at a bit of well informed and educated guesswork. We do know for sure that its an ultra modern ground up rewrite designed at its core to milk all the most modern foundations of the OS and the host hardware , and crucially its been done by a dev team who have unparalleled access to the Mac’s hardware and OS teams … I think one can readily expect they’ll have milked that advantage. That said, I don’t think anyone would dispute how astonishingly good the Mercury Playback Engine is in PPro.

[walter biscardi] “Well honestly, if you go back in time through the years on the forum, your point applies to every single release of FCP. “

Absolutely … all the more reason for a dedicated “pointless speculation” forum! Seriously tho mate, you do realise I’m joking right? You seem to be playing it all rather dead pan.

[walter biscardi] “So I would not vote for a separate Final Cut Pro forum”

Oh snore. I think you are missing the point Walter … the FCP X forum can just be called the “Utterly pointless FCP speculation forum” if you like. When FCP X ships then FCP X posts would no longer be so pointless or speculative. The issue we’re all having a quiet laugh about here is just that the COW’s FCP forum (in fact just about every FCP forum, not surprisingly) has been mobbed by annoying panic posts the last few days … and wouldn’t it be nice just to put all that somewhere else where folks who care for it can have at it to their hearts content without diluting everything else.

Grumble moan …. it’ll all die down soon anyway I expect as folks realise the sky didn’t just fall in and/or more details slowly filter out.

    Cheers
    Andy
