VO Tool can be a little picky about when it chooses to work … I have a Multibridge Extreme in the office, so if the problem is not solved before Monday I’ll take a look.

what settings do you have set in your Decklink Preference pane for input? if you have the active input set to SD/HD SDI only then the you will indeed get nothing from the analog input on the multibridge

thats right … DVCPRO HD records 8-bit, 4:2:2, XDCAM HD is 4:2:0

the improvement is quite significant, and I think most shooters will prefer the 35mbps VBR codec (just as soon as we get a working solution for using it in FCP). one thing to note is that Sony’s 25mbps CBR codec for XDCAM HD already has uncompressed audio … afaik this is the specific difference between XDCAM HD at 25mbps and HDV

no real reason to bury it so far, not that that is likely to be the cause of your issue:
i just set scratch disk (and autosave vault) directly to the root of media drive … fcp will then create the usual Capture Scratch, Render Files, Audio Render Files and Autosave Vault folders directly at that root level.
also you might want to preempt any permissions issues by ensuring that the media drive has “Ignore ownership on this volume” set (select the disc in the finder and press Cmd-I to display the drives info window and then look under “ownership and permissions” at the bottom of that window) -
you should be fine. the only real caveat with HDV is that you will need to render the whole timeline in full quality before you can layoff back to HDV tape… this is because, as you edit, FCP is breaking up the native MPEG2 Long GOP structure of the source clips, and will therefore need to rebuild this structure for your finished sequence before it can transfer it back down the firewire to the deck.
another limitation that may be worth noting is that you do not get realtime HDV preview via FW during the edit (for the same reasons as above) … you’ll probably need to use the “Digital Cinema Desktop” option to preview your edit in reasonable quality, but this is progressive only so beware of flash frames

as per the manual, the “Not Threaded” message is FCP’s way of telling you that your VTR has no tape loaded … but you are not using a deck, nor are you using machine control, so just ignore it. If you can already see and hear your source then you are good to go. Press play and hit “Capture Now”.

hope thats all it is, but if it’s really not showing up there then its possibly some kind of dreaded permissions thing. do a “get info” on the plugin and see if you have read & write permission … not sure why you wouldn’t have but regardless, you should be able to fix it by making yourself the owner

press cmd-f12 … that should turn on “all frames” in the vdeo playback settings … also check that your canvas window is not overlapping and/or is partially hidden by another window, and that your video fits within the canvas window (select the canvas and press shift-Z, which is “fit to window”)

is this true when you double click a clip w/audio in the browser, or only double clicking a clip in the timeline? if you have “linked selection” turned off then only that aspect of the clip that ypu double click will load in the viwer … turn on “linked selection” (shift-L) and see if works more as you’d expect

no this is not the paradigm that FCP uses for timeline markers. in FCP, when you mark a point in the timeline you are doing exactly that, you are not marking any particular clip instance, be it audio or video, that might lie on one of any number of video or audio tracks at that position in the timeline, you are marking the position in the timeline itself … therefore when you move clips around in the timeline, by whatever method you choose, you are not moving the marker.
