AJA already offers VTR Xchange as a standalone capture app for Kona users … hard to believe that they would not take that as a working base and rise to the challenge of filling any future need.

I must say, if log & capture is not included in FCP X, it is a deal breaker for me
This doesn’t make sense. If Log and Capture is handled by Application A vs Application B what difference does it make. Application B, dedicated to the task, may be better than using Application A. And why aren’t you using Application C anyway? Given your workflow it would seem to be a far better choice, then maybe you really could spend the last 3 hours playing cards.

Lol … oh well. Got to be hugely disappointing for the MacVideo team but I guess thats the way the cookie crumbles. But I bet they sold a whole bunch more tickets than usual 🙂

As far as I can tell, the only info available is whats on the Eventbrite page Ben, the blurb on the MacVideo site itself is just the generic wording they put for every event … the sponsors are specific tho, but would likely sponsor regardless or even especially if Apple are there as it guarantees a sellout hence more folks looking at their banner, talking to them at their booth/table etc.
The Supermeet should be fun as everyone will be able to talk / argue about what hopefully will already be a released product. The MacVideo Expo may or may not offer a new / updated sneak peek at what coming … or even the full reveal itself … or not … who knows? Wish I was going to either as there’s going to be loads of folks I’d like to catch up with at both events regardless, but sadly neither are on the cards for me at the moment.

Lol. Me? You asked “Could they still import these files into iMovie or another editing program? Is this the same for HDV 1080i footage shot on a Z7U?” .. and I answered that No, they couldn’t, not without the codec.

VLC is a free media player with embedded playback support that will allow your client to view your XDCAM files even though they don’t otherwise have the correct codec installed on their system. You can download it here: https://www.videolan.org/vlc/
It would not allow them to import and use your XDCAM files in iMovie (or any other editing program). Same goes for your HDV files.
If you want your client to be able to play your XDCAM and HDV quicktime movies (without FCP installed) then you might suggest they buy the Calibrated Software’s XDDecode Quicktime component for Mac. This will allow them to open and play XDCAM HD/EX and HDV QuickTime Movie (MOV) files in any app that uses Quicktime. -
Yup VLC … or they could download the free Sony XDCAM Browser app (or Sony Clip Browser) and view with that.
