In Washington DC – most of this is a network TV perspective
Major Networks (NBC, ABC and I think still CBS) all on Avid…locals in Edius and Premiere
BBC in DC still using FCP 7! (because FCP 10 doesn’t interface with their server for some reason but their field folks using FCP 10 ..and I’m told some premiere back in London
At ABC where I work – AVID in house – and a mix of FCP10 and Premiere in the field (frankly it doesn’t matter…whatever is available that works fast and can upload or feed)

Alex in this forum you are going to get a lot of FCP X all the way. You won’t get an unvarnished opinion on Premiere here from many participants. I love Premiere but it is true there are some issues with each upgrade. You should religiously auto save as we’ve had unrecoverable project files that we could only resurrect with auto save. AE to Premiere round tip is mostly good except when it isn’t
That said both systems have many pros..and cons
If you are the only FCP x shop in town. Don’t expect experienced editors to jump thru hoops to learn X for one client if they are flush with work

Sheesh! (As you like to say)
Is someone insecure about their NLE choice? Someone asked a question. I gave a possible answer. Wasn’t challenging your manhood.
I work in network broadcast and documentary news There’s is not a single shop I know that uses FCP X. It’s all FCP 10 Premiere and Avid. May be one reason a FCP x shop has trouble finding experienced editors. Just a guess
Nothing against your cherished NLE

maybe because they are terrific editors who’ve spent years on standard NLEs and found no need to relearn everything to suit Apple?

I was replying to the first post about how long it took to regain the number of people using legacy FCP (I was one that products biggest evangelists)
It is delusional to say otherwise.
I also said they’ve made dramatic improvements ..but on 10 Apple lost me (and thousands of others) at hello
and Bill you’ve made no secret you are a FCP X Fanboy – Good for you…..glad it works for you. It doesn’t for a great number of former FCP 7 users.
Happy Editing.

April 27, 2017 at 10:48 pm in reply to: Apple took 6 years to recover the number of FCP users it had in 2011to answer the question “your point?” This was a marketing disaster for Apple at first — years of professional goodwill lost with a program the company knew wasn’t ready to replace the mature industry leading software in adoption and use.
so to take this long to regain that base is not a case study in “the right way to keep your customers happy”
I’m one of the several million “seats” sold but after realizing it didn’t do what I needed in version one (or several updates) i just let it sit on my computer unused.
Yes, they’ve dramatically improved the software in all those years, but when you lose a customer “at hello” it’s difficult to win them back.
And yes, i’ve used FCP 10 occasionally, but despite the fans who will say I just need to think the way the software thinks, it still seems unnecessarily fussy with assigning roles and secondary story lines and tiny undockable control panels …so much thinking different. Premiere Pro was a more logical successor to FCP 7 — tiny learning curve and it works nearly the same without all the transcoding headaches.
