You can already change a track volume on the fly while the timeline plays.
why not just add an “automation keyframe mode” to that that records the keyframes as you change it?
It would be one track at a time (just like FCP 7..unless you are using an outboard control surface mixer) but that would save hours of rubber banding

Does FCP7’s in – out select in to out — shift delete work in FCPX? — that was the quickest way to remove a large chunk of everything and pull it back together.

The biggest turn off is no audio automation mixer.
I still can’t see how rubberbanding and range select ducking audio clip by clip is easier/faster/better than mixing in real time with subtle audio ducks and swells — we use this every single day to get a clean mix and this still doesn’t exist in FCPX.
There are some very cool features in FCP X but I agree with Mr. Goodman above — it feels like the editor must conform to the NLE’s quirks rather than being able to keep your hand off the mouse and fly with all keyboard commands.
All that said…FCP 7 has gotten slower and clunkier with newer formats (XDCAM is a colossal headache on 7 with render times…we just turn it all into prores) I like PP6 but it’s still only 90 percent of the way there. Avid just feels clunky.
Come on Apple give us a real time audio mixer and some semblance of tracks without the Texas two step of creating roles etc…and you’d bring a lot of refugees back.

it’s a pretty easy transition – especially with CS6 –
Premiere has a set of keyboard shortcuts that match FCP 7’s so it will feel like you are editing in FCP – there are a number of differences — the list of plugins and filters aren’t as robust..and little things like transfer modes at first look like they aren’t there – but in fact are a filter you add in with one of the Keying effects.
All in all it’s faster – will take virtually any codec you throw in the timeline and play in real time without rendering — you can have all red render bars and it will still play and edit…huge advantage.
Downside is even you rendered as you go along – it doesn’t seem to care about that on final render – it re-renders everything into the export codec you chose — however you can offload it all to the Adobe Media manager and it will work in the background while you continue to edit something else.
The Adobe folks are working hard to add things FCP editors want so go to their suggestion page – they are listening.

funny you should mention that font i just needed the same one..There is a “free” Bold version floating around the internet, but it seems to be a copyright rip off…..Adobe sells the entire family of that font on line for 25 dollars each……I went the legal route…someone spent time creating and copyrighting it — we are in the creative business — help the creators keep creating!

I’m curious about audio – that seems to be the biggest challenge in FCPX – no real time mixer or track automation — did you rubberband everything for the mix — sync a pre-mix from somewhere else?…how did you handle multi channels of mics and instruments?
