What are your source footage settings in FCP? 24P? 16:9? HD? DV? Few more details might help get to the bottom of your problem.
When you import your footage into Compressor, make sure you check the encode tab and make sure your fields are set correctly. For example, exporting DV material out of FCP is usually Lower Field first. I have seen stair stepping on footage when the fields were set wrong.
You could export out just the in/out points of your pan that are giving you a problem and bring that QuickTime into Compressor to test that the fields are set up right.

If they have the same production schedule like the Kona2, we are all in trouble. Kona2 shown at NAB in April, finally shipped to the masses in October or November….Hopefully the 10,000 ordered (rumor) so far is making them ramp up production faster.

Thanks for the MPEG Streamclip idea. I was having issues with FLIP4Mac today and was browsing the cow and read your recipe. Downloaded MPSC and saved my files over the network to a PC. Downloaded the WM Encoder and created my files. It is a little more work, but the files looked great.

Update your software or compress with Constant Bit rate only. The VBR setting has the green cast bug.

Went ahead and did that. I also made DATA disc with the separate IMG file as well. Hopefully they won’t have a problem now.

When I plugged in the drive a second time today, I formatted it as a MSDOS format in the OSX Drive Utility. Was this also a mistake? Is it going to be another problem for NT as well? Might have to get the drive back again and format it on a windows machine as you stated.

Well Bob, maybe V3HD will become the next “Play…trinity” vaporware that never gets off the ground! You sure can’t go wrong with AJA hardware as their track record is amazing. Now hurry up AJA and ship the new IO-HD would ya……

I got the DP Magazine over a week ago and wondered the same thing. I posted the same question on another forum and no one ever responded. No one talked about it during NAB, unless I missed it. Looks like an interesting FCP alternative. I can’t find any pricing? DVCPRO HD vs. ProRes might be the kicker, but it all depends on what format you need.

Thanks for the ideas tom. I have been playing around with the footage and trying your recipe. where is the progressive option? in a Sub-menu export of FCP? Can’t seem to choose it.
I’m trying a few flavors of Motion JPEG and Photo JPEG and getting ready to compress them in Compressor. Not able to see that much of a difference in the self contained QT’s.

Not to my knowledge. The footage sits in a 8 bit-uncompressed interlaced sequence with lower field checked.
Will chime back in after all the test renders and play back on DVD.

Well not sure if it was a tube or not. Serial Betacam #8 camera and the footage was from around 1983 or 84. So probably tube? I was talking to another editor and he stated that it might be part of the old betacam artifacting prior to CCD cameras. I’m open to any hunches Tom, so ask away 🙂
What I meant about the lower field, was you can get strobbing when you encode the MPEG-2 to the wrong field out of FCP.
