…which is why I chose to buy it! I know it is very, very good indeed. I’m looking forward to that time when I am sufficiently proficient to love it…

  • Ok, thanks. Does that mean that you can change the order of the films/sequences more easily? And when it comes to integrating them into one DVD project, how does that work?

    Cheers, Andy

You don’t have to render to see changes in Premier, and you can preview the transitions. Minor points, I know. ANd I have to say I am excited about getting to know FCP over the next week – I have a whole week to play with it, so I’m sure by the end of it, I’ll be much more at peace!

This is just the capturing stage, so I’m using the jog and shuttle to get some accuracy with logging. JKL – yes, that’s a bit of magic, I have to agree…

Well, I can’t do that right now as I don’t have a Firewire 6 pin to 4 pin cable to daisychain camera to LAcie… And I bought the hub today! It worked brilliantly for the first 25 minutes of video I captured… That was no problem. It’s just this bit after the glitch… Can I import the video from premier, where I have already downloaded the whole tape? Will FCP recognise the AVIs?

Yeah, well, you gotta wonder why there is such a huge forum society – not all plain sailing if you don’t live, at and breathe FCP. And what’s wrong with a little kicking and screaming?

I guess what I’ve found so far is that the jog and shuttle buttons are not as responsive as I want them to be, the logging and capturing process does seem rather cumbersome, and the Help button is not that helpful really! I know it’s a fantastic tool. I know FCP is amazing, but the getting to understand it thing is not as intuititive a process I was hoping for. It’s like the brilliant philosopher Wittgenstein – he was great at Mathematics – unbelievable brain – but was a useless teacher, because he couldn’t get down to the level of mere mortals… Entry into FCP is a big jump…

    Hi,
I’m using an imac 2.93Ghz 4 gb memory – current model off the shelf. My camera is a Sony FX1E connected through a Unibrain 800 Repeater hub with a Lacie Rugged external hard drive. Shooting in DV. Film shot on two separate days – after first day finishes, image stops for 4 seconds before starting again on second day’s taping, with time code reverted to zero. When I click capture now, message is that FCP6 is searching for timecode. hanging to non-controllable devicd , then clicking capture now: message – no video.

Thanks, using DV. Switched to non controllable device, and when i click ‘capture now’ FCP tells me that there is no video… I’m sure this is pretty basic, but I can’t see what I need to do.
