Capture Now Button Not Functioning

Well if you have timecode issues then you’ll have to revert to Non Controllable Device and go without timecode.

FCP can’t capture if you’re in controllable device mode and you don’t have good timecode to lock up to.

Great, thanks. Is there a setting somewhere that will enable FCP6 to capture shots individually – i.e. break up my footage into the real-time shots that I took? Thanks

If you have good timecode on the tape, yes, it would create a new shot at every TC break.

If you shot with HDV, you can turn on Start / Stop detection if you’re capturing in HDV mode.

Need some basic information here. What format are you shooting? What camera or deck? What drives? How’s everything connected? What computer? What version of the software, OS and QT? All this information is basic to troubleshooting any problem, particularly a capture problem. With one timecode break you should be able to capture around the break with capture now. You must leave at least three seconds for preroll if you are using device control.

Thanks, using DV. Switched to non controllable device, and when i click ‘capture now’ FCP tells me that there is no video… I’m sure this is pretty basic, but I can’t see what I need to do.

Hi,
I’m using an imac 2.93Ghz 4 gb memory – current model off the shelf. My camera is a Sony FX1E connected through a Unibrain 800 Repeater hub with a Lacie Rugged external hard drive. Shooting in DV. Film shot on two separate days – after first day finishes, image stops for 4 seconds before starting again on second day’s taping, with time code reverted to zero.When I click capture now, message is that FCP6 is searching for timecode. hanging to non-controllable devicd , then clicking capture now: message – no video.

First, remove the hub. Connect the camera to the hard drive and the hard drive to the computer so they’re daisychained. If you shot DV on that camera you have to make sure the FCP preset is set to DV anamorphic and that the camera is set to output DV via iLink and not HDV.

Trash your preferences. Connect the camera, turned on in VCR mode set to the correct output. Launch the application. Set the correct DV PAL Anamorphic settings. Does the application recognize the camera? If not do not proceed further. Check to see if the camera is recognized in system profiler. Report back.

Well, I can’t do that right now as I don’t have a Firewire 6 pin to 4 pin cable to daisychain camera to LAcie… And I bought the hub today! It worked brilliantly for the first 25 minutes of video I captured… That was no problem. It’s just this bit after the glitch… Can I import the video from premier, where I have already downloaded the whole tape? Will FCP recognise the AVIs?

Have you tried setting “uncontrolled device” in the capture settings and just manually rolling the playback off the camera, THEN punching the “capture now” button as the tape plays? When I have a time code problem this works for me every time.
