Actually avoiding banding is THE reason why I would like to use 32-bit color space, so I’m very glad you mentioned it! At this point I won’t need super whites or any advanced effects, mostly my work is just masking with large amounts of feather. That feathering shows easily up as banding if I work only in 8bit.
So in this particular case, would you recommend the workflow we are talking about?From AE I’m planning to take the video to Premiere using Dynamic Link and from Premiere I will render out as Lossles avi. Does this make any sense?

The audio crew is using mainly Cubase SX 3 on the PC. They are indeed doing compositing work and that is the main reason why they want the picture -they want to be able to see what they are doing the sounds on.
On the Mac we are editing DVCPRO50 format. The format that we deliver to the audio crew doesn’t matter though, as long as they have something to get the basic idea from. The video quality does not have any importance as long as you can tell what’s happening in it. I can’t remember which formats we already tried, but there has been many (quicktime was one for sure) and only the MiniDV captured from a PC worked.

I knew I would get suggestions to do it on Mac. This is not possible for several reasons. The most important one is that the audio mastering studio that I bring the files to uses PCs instead of Macs. Why? I don’t know. Maybe because PCs are much cheaper or something but anyway, the work they do is great. About soundtrack pro, I’m sorry to say that I have used several professional audio programs like Cubase and Sonar and soundtrack pro doesn’t fight even in the same league as those. Now you might ask what is it that can’t be done with soundtrack pro then? Well, the stuff being done to our tv-show is pretty complex and it includes stuff like composing background music, adding effects, removing noise and humms, complex EQ:ing, sidechaing compressor techniques, mastering and so on. The guys also use tons of hardware synths and controllers etc. Maybe complex work like this could be done with Soundtrack pro, but it would be a nightmare. It is simply better to do it with Cubase and Protools at the moment.
Back to the subject:
I’m still wondering if it really is this hard to work cross-platform? Obviously the Mac CAN write a format that a PC will understand, since it can output on MiniDV tapes that are readable on PCs also. Is there really no easy way to export a file that will work on a pc? Can’t I use the same settings that are being used when printing to tape only outputting on the hard disk instead of the tape? Can someone explain why this would not be possible?

The camera is an old Igekami so there is no such port on it. We capture using Black Magic together with a dvcpro deck.
So there is really no way to render the footage out from Final Cut Pro in a lossless format that a pc understands? 🙁

We have installed the Black Magic codecs on the PC also. I searched some more in the web and I think now that the issue is related to the specific quictime files the Mac makes. After installing a trial version of DV Film’s Raylight plugin I was able to view the quictimes on he PC.
I’m looking for a solution in which I don’t have to purchase additional software though. That’s why I’m interested in your suggestion to export to DV. But would I loose quality if I did that?

Thank you for your reply! Could you tell me the name of the file that I have to modify? I looked and looked in all the folders that are inside After Effects program folder, but found nothing like that! If it matters, I have AE 7 pro.
