Hi Fabian,

To begin with what are your project properties?

I use Vegas Pro so I can only assume the following apply’s to Movie Studio also.

To begin with your project properties should match or be higher that what your final render will be. From the ‘Render As’ menu option you should choose MainConcept MPEG-2, you should see some DVD Architect templates, choose the one that’s applicable to your DVD settings. From there you open DVD architect and choose the MPEG-2 file you rendered.

What kind of DVD are you burning? A standard DVD or a Blu-Ray.? This will determine what template you use to render.

UPDATE: i just rolled back to quicktime version 7.6.2 and I can now select the audio tab without vegas crashing.

Hi Mike. I was running the latest Quicktime 7.6.5 but unsure what the original version was before I had these issues.

I thought updating to the latest may solve the issue.

I have done some testing rolling back to 7.6.4 and still had the same issue. I just finished re-installing vegas and still have the same issue. I’ll keep rolling back through quicktime versions to see if thats the issue.

Thanks Walter and Todd for clearing this up. Knowing AE decodes then re-encodes has cleared a lot of things up.

The Frame rate conversion is the last step in my workflow Walter.

I completley understand your point. I am using AE to do a frame rate conversion using the turorial at

I have done a small test and the result was great. My project is a video clip shot on a Canon 5d MK2 at 1920×1080 30fps. One of the deliverables is SD 25fps PAL. The reason for asking the question was to reduce file sizes and time for rendering. At the moment my workflow is
Sony Vegas export, uncompressed quicktime 720×576 30fps. This file is around 10gig. I then import that into AE, apply the frame conversion and render out to an uncompressed quicktime 720×576 25fps. From this I can then make a DigiBeta master. This should take care of the PAL SD component but at the moment the render out of AE is showing around 20 hours for a 4 min clip.

My thought was that if I can use something like the Cineform Codec to export out of Sony Vegas and then keep the same codec in AE, would this reduce the render time.?

At the moment all I am trying to achieve is a HD Master clip and a SD PAL Master clip and from scouring the web the best software frame rate conversion seemed to be AE

Hi Michael,

I’m currently working on a project shot on a 5d mk2 and have the same requirements for deliverables. Could you talk about how you delt with frame rate conversion or conforming to the different frame rates .? I’m quite stuck and cant seem to find an awnser.
