Hello,
i know its annoying for me to ask this basic question but hey it IS the basic section right 🙂I could just really use the help walking me thru from beginning to end steps – i want to add anywhere from 10-30% grain to some red footage short film project but in Resolve and/or FCP so i just need to get this out of AE properly and today.
Any help would be really awesome.
Thank you -
i think i am doing something wrong because the grey solid is included in my render not just the grain with transparency – sorry i am super novice and could use a simple point a to b hand holding if anyone can elaborate?

thx Ola!
so but that config would only be for this resolution not ANY project of course right? Like i couldn’t make a config that is just auto setting resolution and quality to full?
thanks again for the fast response! -
ahh ok so in the case of this 4.5k resolve job i would switch red decoder to full quality and also switch project resolution temporarily from 1290×1080 t0 4480×1920 export as you explain and then switch back to grading settings?
thank you very much sir!!

Hey Robert,
Ideally I am just hoping to replace those small hand full (less than 10) shots – can you explain how best to do this? Otherwise, If I cannot do that would I then just import all of the r3d into the media pool and import the edl exactly the same as I did with the xml? What if any differences should I be aware of?
I am also curious in that I have gone ahead and graded a first pass on the entire short film – what makes the most sense for workflow – I did save grades but rather than making a new project and re-apply each shots saved grade isn’t there a more sensible / fast way to import this hopefully correct edl linking to the proper r3d files and taking all of the grading I did on my first pass – creating another session which looks at the grades from my first attempt??
My inclination is to just replace the problem shots since everything else seems fine and its not even ten shots ya know?!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
cheers

can you show a screen grab of exactly what setting you have when choosing the setting for generating the LUT?
I just did the 10 bit option but i am curious now because the files i am working with are ProRes444 and in Davincic it says they are 16 bit – this is for a broadcast spot and of course i am working in 10 bit for resolve so any info would be helpful!

Hey Joseph
nice to get a reply from SOMEONE 🙂
so yes of course what i meant was that they want to conform back to the 4.5 k r3d files…any advice??

Hi MM,
I just posted a thread regarding my first Avid job with offline dnxhd and conforming back to r3d for grading but have yet to get any responses.MM i am curious if you can point me towards something in the manual or a source online for exact directions on Avid round-tripping and more importantly with RED material edited offline with avid dnx transcodes etc.
any help would be great as I need to properly advise the avid editor on how to prep everything for me to receive and work with on my full version of Resolve.
thank you

October 22, 2011 at 7:18 pm in reply to: Compositing workflow and multiple footage formatsReally great info here thank you so much! I would be curious to hear your thoughts on the linear pipeline with grading apps, nuke, flame, maya etc – is that open-exr, aces, or something different with workflow?
I listened to this and some other talk from fxguide peeps but got a little lost 🙂
