  • Although I must say I am finding the AAF workflow extremely unpredictable…..

Just imported 5 AAFs….. got the message “XXX clips of XXX clips not found” in every case. I tell the dialogue box NOT to search other folders for the media as I plan to “manually” add clips to the media pool to see if that works. However once the AAF files have imported, in fact all of the clips link up correctly to the media without me doing anything at all.

XML seems to work in a pretty straighforward way…. the much lauded AVID media management seems very very flaky in the tapeless, multi format world….. (and no, I’m not using AMA – everything has been converted to DNXHD)

  • I’ve been using Resolve for about a year, 3-5 days a week grading usually and don’t have this problem. Using a Mac Pro and DeckLink HD Extreme 3D card. Mostly 1080i Pro Res or DNxHD material. Was on version 8, now on version 9. The only time I’ve had this kind of problem is when I have had FCP or AVID open at the same time and sometimes those apps seem to ‘grab’ the Decklink card, even if I have monitoring turned off in the app.

Could be a lot of issues but I don’t think it is a basic bug with Resolve.

  • Haha….. I tell them over and over not to mix the cameras this way but this is constantly ignored….they buy these cameras and use them haphazardly…..

Yeah 24 working hrs is a lot of time….. I do 1300 shot TV shows in 8-10 hrs quite often….

Hue vs Hue and Hue vs Sat curves can sometimes work well for a quick isolation / manipulation of sky, in combination with pushing a bit of blue into the gain…. but all depends on a lot of specific properties of the shot and what you are trying to achieve….

Yeah….good suggestion….this is what I have done thanks and will do as a work around until they return the functionality that was in Version 8 ( a touch of the FCP X debacle here!)…

  • Would love to hear what happens when you really push this system to the limits….. 2k and even 4k material…

I’m not expecting realtime playback with multiple blur nodes but wondering if it is usuable or becomes overwhelmingly laggy, beachballs etc….

Can you explain what you mean in more detail?

    Here is my process…..

    Create a new database
    Log in as admin
Click on the project settings cog icon
    Make all my settings
    Save my settings
Right click on my saved settings and choose “Save as System Config”

Then when I need to create a new database for a new series I expect that I can just load the “System Config” settings and I’m ready to go….BUT IT DOES NOT WORK!!!!! “System Config” does not appear to apply to my system – just one database. Useless!!!! Unless I am doing something wrong???

    Please help someone!!!

For every TV series I grade I create a new database, to keep things neatly organized. In Version 8 you could import configuration settings (essentially PRESETS) with my preferred settings, from another database. This functionality seems to have been removed from Version 9. Moreover when I tried to create a system setting preset by logging in as ADMIN, so that my default for any database would be my usual preferred settings, when I created a new database, the default system setting seems to have reverted to the install default – NOT MY CREATED system setting, so I can’t even get this functionality to work….

    ARRGGGG…..

Um…..anyone? The clunky workaround I have found is to import a project from another database then access the settings through that….. a step backwards from version 8 functionality….. have they removed this feature?
