Ok thanks JPO – what would your process with FCP be to ‘extract’ the alpha?

Also Davinci seems to refuse to see the animation codec QTs at all – I look in the folders where they should be through the DAVINCI browse page and these clips do not appear, although they are in the OSX finder….

hmmmm……..odd that in so many ways the software seems designed with real colorists in mind and yet there seems to be some very obvious functionality missing….

    thx

  • all those things are good but the revolutionary concept of an “undo” function that works as expected is just mindblowing to me…… it’s great to be in 1991! Can’t wait to see what they come up with next century….

Is it really possible to use both graphics cards in a MacBook Pro in this way (1 for GUI and one for Cuda processing) ??! Has anyone actually made this work?

  • the crashes seem to occur intermittently when I middle click on a still in the gallery to apply a saved grade

  • This keeps happening and I am losing 1-2 hours work per day…..not sustainable…..the only solution I can see would be to export a version of the project every 10 minutes or so as a backup…..but doing this will also lose me considerable time…..any solutions?

    DaVinci had been wonderful….

This is now becoming an impractical tool….

    🙁

Furthermore if there must be two forums the only split that really makes sense to me is a separate “Configuration” forum. Unless you need a few specific things that the full version offers – say 3D or working in 2K, the Lite version will offer everything a fully professional colorist needs and works exactly the same. I have used both on HD material and see zero difference (I know there are some things such as you can only add one additonal graphics card in Lite but many “full” version users only have one additional card anyway).

In short, if you are working in 2D HD, there may be no reason for you to buy the full version. You could easily grade broadcast TV for many years with such a setup and be a very experienced, skilled and knowledgeable colorist with a properly setup color grading suite and be using “Lite”. Most likely you would not be using the “Lite” forum in this case…..

Davinci Lite is not the same as “Final Cut Express” for example.
