Walter Thanks! Very weird that FCP doesn’t show the accurate Color Correction after render…but at least I know my corrections are valid, I thought is still “looked” corrected, but wasn’t sure.

I was not using the broadcast safe and levels filters, just adjusting with the 3 Way CC to achieve the correct balance. I looked for you blog and only found this entry “Apple Color and FCP deliver true Broadcast Safe for ‘the big boys'”…is this the one you were referring too?

In any case I will apply like this 3 Way CC, Broadcast Safe(default setting) and then Levels (what is this filter…I can’t seem to find it and have never used it).

I have never tried using Color and will probably make do with FCP’s options for this round of spots. I do own, and have watched, your DVD “Stop Staring and Start Grading with Apple Color”…just need to make the time to take a project in there!

Thanks for the info Shane. I played with the Raylight demo and that seems to do the trick. So hopefully there will be a fix for this from Apple before I drop the coin on a new HVX200, or I’ll be making a purchase from dvfilm.com.

I would like to capture to the best quality possible, so probably uncompressed, but I am not sure what that means exactly…in terms of data rates and storage. Remember I am acquiring images with an AVCHD camera, the AG-HSC1U.

I am still wondering if the HDMI out bypasses compression within the camera, and is therefore pulling the information directly from the CCD’s.

I was hoping that the capture would happen through the Intensity Card, and thus, through the express card slot. It seems like the bandwidth is there according to Magma, and I am not clear if the Intensity card actually allows for live capture.

The cost is about $1000, but a new camera winds up costing around $5000, so while it might be expensive for one slot, the main thing I am concerned with is the quality it will produce…then I will determine if it is worth the expense, and the headache of dragging that gear to each shoot.

I am not sure this would be considered a fix as much as a workaround. I can ingest with iMovie 08. So atleast I can get the footage in, although iMovie automatically selects the Apple Intermediate codec, which is fine by me. I checked once back in FCP to see if this process “jump started” FCP’s log and transfer window, and it did. I have only done this once, so will report back if there are any issues.

Note to Apple: Please fix this issue.

It seems that this fix only worked temporarily…what the #$%%^&*. Why can’t the update just work? Any help?

Thanks, that is helpful. I am running some tests now.

Another question: Is there a way to output a deinterlaced master copy in HD? Maybe in the DVCproHD codec? Something to archive and save for future projects, as I said , I want to mix this footage with hight quality, probably HVX-200 (unless they Panny comes out with a new version before I get a budget together) in upcoming projects?

Answer to Question 1: It seems the only difference is the gamma curve and the fact that there is no audio monitoring. ie: no mini stereo out. Although there is a mini stereo in, so with an xlr adapter/mixer you can get pro audio in on two channels. Which is what I am looking for. Also, if you need to monitor with the HDC-SD you will have to get a mixer that has this option. Azden”s FMX-20 mounts below the camera and has this option, along with xlr in.

Thats what I found after perusing the web.

Answer to Question 2: color space is 4:2:0
